New York Yankees pitcher Max Fried saw an early exit from Saturday’s start against the Chicago Cubs due to a blister on his left index finger, per the team.
Fried exited the contest after pitching just three innings. It was an uncharacteristic performance for the lefty as he allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out just two batters. Of his 73 pitches thrown, 39 went for strikes.
It seems clear the blister bothered Fried enough to affect his play, but it shouldn’t be an issue moving forward. The 31-year-old won’t pitch for New York again until after the All-Star break, so there’s plenty of time for the injury to heal up.
After today’s performance, Fried’s ERA sits at 2.43 with a 1.01 WHIP on the campaign. He’s struck out 113 batters across 122.0 innings of work.
