This is the opener of a three-game series in Baltimore between the Orioles and visiting Miami Marlins.
Edward Cabrera is scheduled to pitch for Miami while Dean Kremer should get the nod for Baltimore.

Edward Cabrera has been the subject of trade rumors recently for teams looking to bolster their starting pitching. And for good reason, as Cabrera is 27 years old, throws hard and has been pitching very well this season. He averages 96.8 mph on the fastball and is sporting a 3.33 ERA. The FIP is higher at 3.88, though, as the strand rate is 79.2% and the walk rate is at 9.2%. That said, the strikeout rate is 24.5%, swinging strike rate is 11.1% and the barrel rate is 7.5%.
There are no discernible splits for Cabrera.
Cabrera has allowed more than three earned runs twice, but those came in the first four starts of the season. He did have a shoulder injury last season, so it took some time to get right. He did not throw at least six innings until a month ago. In his two most recent starts, Cabrera pitched seven innings in both and hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs since early June. This will be his first time facing Baltimore this season.
Against right-handed pitching, the Orioles have struck out at the fourth-highest rate while having the sixth-best ISO. The wOBA is 14th-best in MLB.
Dean Kremer is more like Dean Mehmer, as most of his numbers are average. For many things in life, when the porridge is just right, that’s a good thing. For sports, it’s often about being at the tails. That said, being in the middle has utility. For baseball, especially for a pitcher, it’s mostly about eating innings and giving the team a chance. In 101.1 innings, Kremer is sporting a 4.53 ERA with a 4.08 FIP. The strikeout rate is only 18.8%, but he’s only walked 26 batters and given up 14 home runs. Kremer has done a good job limiting hard contact, though, which is definitely a skill. The average exit velocity is 88.7 mph, the barrel rate is 8.1% and the hard hit rate is 35.7%.
Lefties have had more success against Kremer and have hit nine of the 14 home runs. Kremer has been much better at home and nine of the 14 home runs have come on the road.
In 17 starts, Kremer has allowed more than three earned runs nine times. In his most recent start, he got tagged for five earned runs in 4.1 innings by the Braves in Atlanta. Prior to that, he allowed zero, one and one earned runs in seven, 5.2 and five innings against the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees. Baseball. This will be his first time facing Miami this season.
The Marlins have struck out at the 20th-highest rate against right-handed pitching while being 23rd in ISO. The wOBA is 18th-best.
As for bullpens, Miami has the 19th-lowest FIP while Baltimore has the 23rd-lowest.
Marlins at Orioles Best Bet
I do like Cabrera and his recent form is encouraging. I think he puts up another quality start. As for Mehmer, I think he also pitches well, as the Marlins aren’t offensive world beaters.
