MLB DFS Picks: Three must-start fantasy baseball players for Wednesday 7/9/25

We’re already halfway through the week as Wednesday brings another big MLB slate to the table. With 11 games to choose from on DraftKings’ main DFS offerings, fantasy baseball players are in for another fun day of contests once the action on the diamonds gets rolling.

Here are three must-start MLB DFS picks for tonight’s lineups.

SP Kris Bubic, KC Royals vs. PIT Pirates; $10,000

I’ll be honest, most of the pitchers on tonight’s slate didn’t hold significantly more appeal than the rest of the pack. Sometimes the top option remains the best one, which seems to be the case with Kansas City’s Kris Bubic ($10,000). He’ll be rostered by plenty of players, but differentiation elsewhere in your lineup can make up the difference. In the meantime, Bubic brings an average of 20.3 FPPG with a 2.45 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 107 strikeouts in 103 innings this year. He’s expensive, yes, but he brings a steady floor with plenty of upside in a very positive matchup against a poor Pittsburgh Pirates lineup.

OF Kyle Tucker, CHI Cubs @ MIN Twins; $6,000

Since we shelled out big money for Bubic, we’re going slightly cheaper for the top hitter in our lineups tonight. Chicago’s Kyle Tucker ($6,000) averages 10.4 FPPG on the campaign and brings upside across the board both at the plate and as a baserunner. He’s slashing a cool .286/.391/.515 with 65 runs, 55 RBIs and 17 homers while tacking on an additional 22 stolen bases. Tucker and the Cubs face the Minnesota Twins tonight — opposing starter David Festa ($8,000) has an ERA of 5.48, a 1.36 WHIP and a 17th-percentile barrel rate. Hitters should feast in this one.

1B Pete Alonso, NY Mets @ BAL Orioles; $5,000

We all love homers, but Pete Alonso ($5,000) has proved he’s more than just a power bat this season. Sure, his 21 long balls mean he still excels at what he’s always been best at, but the Mets slugger slashes .290/.383/.551 overall and just knocked his 100th hit of the campaign last night. Alonso averages 9.4 FPPG but that mark sits at 10.4 across his last 10 outings, including showings of 38 and 21 points in two of his last three games. Tonight, he stares down Baltimore Orioles righty Tomoyuki Sugano ($6,000), whose ERA and WHIP read 4.44 and 1.31. Even better is his sky-high 1.83 HR/9 and seventh-percentile barrel rate. Alonso should take advantage.
