After winning 8-4 on Monday night, the Blue Jays now have a nine-game winning streak — the second-longest streak of the season. It’s a run of success where Toronto has shot up from third place in the AL East to a somewhat commanding 3.5-game lead in the division over the reeling New York Yankees.
Can the Jays keep the good times going against the White Sox? Let’s preview this matchup with the help of some odds and lines on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
Blue Jays vs. White Sox prediction, preview
It’s been a little hidden by the overall success of the team, but Chris Bassitt has not been pitching well as of late. After allowing only two earned runs across his first 23.1 innings of the season, the veteran RHP has registered a 5.40 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP dating back all the way to April 22. That’s not a small sample, either, that’s a span of 14 starts. Still, one of the few bright spots in this underwhelming run did come against this same White Sox lineup, with Bassitt tossing six innings of one-run ball back in late June. Considering Chicago comes into Tuesday sitting dead-last in batting average (.222) and 28th in wRC+ (80), there’s really no reason to think that Bassitt can’t do something similar this evening.
If Bassitt can keep the White Sox’s bats at bay, Toronto shouldn’t have too much difficultly pulling away in this one, as Aaron Civale will take the mound for Chicago at Rate Field. In nine starts in 2025, Civale sports a 4.60 ERA and a 5.36 FIP. There’s just really nothing all that inspiring about the right-hander. He doesn’t miss bats, as evidenced by a 16th percentile strikeout rate (17.3%). He doesn’t negate opponent launch angle, as evidenced by a ninth percentile opponent ground ball rate (32.6%). He’s not even really deceptive in any way, as evidenced by first percentile arm extension (5.5). Put all that together, and it’s no wonder why Civale has surrendered more opponent home runs per nine that any other pitcher with 200+ innings thrown since the start of last season (1.63). Woof.
The Blue Jays have scored the most runs in the American League since the beginning of May. In that same span, Toronto’s 116 wRC+ is second to only the also red-hot Astros (117). I have a lot of faith in the Jays’ ability to get to Civale and a White Sox bullpen that ranks 29th in xFIP for 2025 as a whole (4.61). In particular, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has had a lot of individual success against Civale, with a pair of long balls and a 1.256 OPS in 14 career at-bats. If Vladdy can also start to get going at the plate, think about how terrifying this Toronto lineup can be.
Blue Jays vs. White Sox pick, best bet
Best Bet: Over 9 (-102)
Both these starters are struuuuuuuggling as of late. The Jays lead the AL in runs scored since May (316).
Strong Lean: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 3+ Hits + Runs + RBI (+105)
Vladdy has great career numbers off Civale and a 100th percentile expected batting average (.320).
