San Francisco Giants vs. Philadelphia Phillies prediction, pick for Tuesday 7/8/25

Two National League contenders battle it out on the West Coast for the second time in as many nights in the MLB’s late slate on Tuesday. The San Francisco Giants walked out with a home win over the Philadelphia Phillies last night and look to follow the 3-1 victory up with another this evening.

Here’s a Giants vs. Phillies prediction and pick on DraftKings Sportsbook for Tuesday night as the series continues.

Giants vs. Phillies prediction, preview

Last night’s win marked the 50th victory of the season for San Francisco and their fifth over the last six games as they continue to shake off a rough patch. The 3-1 win was a hard-fought one as the game remained knotted at one run apiece entering the bottom of the eighth, but Casey Schmitt knocked in the go-ahead RBI and Jung Hoo Lee added some insurance with another RBI to solidify the scoreboard as the Giants held on.

These teams excel in different aspects as the Phillies bring a high-powered offense to the table that ranks top-10 in AVG and OPS while sitting 11th in runs scored. The contributions of Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm receive plenty of praise as offensive fireworks typically ensue when they’re on the field. It’s the opposite case for the Giants, a team ranked 24th in AVG and OPS at 18th in runs. Rafael Devers has spent time adjusting to his new home while Heliot Ramos, Matt Chapman and others keep plugging away. However, the pitching makes San Francisco a threat with the second-best team ERA in the MLB and a top-12 WHIP. That’s not to say Philly can’t pitch — they certainly can — but they typically see more run support than tonight’s home team does.

Veteran lefty Robbie Ray draws the start for San Francisco in the midst of a resurgent season. He’s thrown 107.1 innings with a 2.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 117 strikeouts as he earned an NL All-Star nod. He throws against Philadelphia’s Tijuan Walker, a right-hander with a 3.64 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 46 strikeouts across 54.1 innings on the year. Where the pitchers are concerned, there’s no question the Giants see an advantage.

Giants vs. Phillies pick, best bet

DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Giants as a -163 Moneyline favorite at home tonight. The Phillies are a +133 underdog on the Moneyline with the run total set at eight.

There’s some risk involved with this selection since the Phillies are still one of the MLB’s top teams, but I actually do like Giants -1.5 at +130 odds in tonight’s matchup. They’ve been scoring more than usual over this hot streak with at least three runs in five of their last six games and five or more runs in four of those. Ray also provides some insurance that the game probably won’t get out of hand early.

While the Phillies could very well win this one outright or at least keep it within a run, this feels like the best game line available and San Francisco is hot right now. Sometimes it’s best to just ride that hot hand and try not to overthink it, so I’m rolling with the Giants in this one.

Best bet: SF Giants -1.5 (+135)
