MLB Best Bets Today: Top plus-money underdog picks for Tuesday 7/8/25

Who doesn’t love an underdog?

Betting on an underdog is the easiest way to get the most bang for your buck with a single wager, yet it’s always a somewhat risky endeavor. I mean, they’re underdogs for a reason, right? Still, there’s no sport where the underdog comes through more often than in baseball. It’s a 162-game season. Even the best teams are going to lose about 60 times a year.

With that in mind, here are the teams I would be gravitating towards if I were looking to back an underdog on DraftKings Sportsbook for Tuesday’s night’s full MLB slate.

Rays ML (+112)

Let’s just choose to ignore the Tigers aspect of this for a second, as it’s obviously not ideal that the Rays are going up against the winningest team in MLB on Tuesday night. Tampa Bay is red-hot across the past month. While the club is only 3-7 in its last 10 games, the Rays are 19-13 dating back to June 3 and, over the past 30 days, they sport the league’s third-highest wRC+ (122). For the season as a whole, Tampa has also been fantastic on the road, with the Rays’ .553 winning percentage away from home representing the second-best mark in baseball. Ryan Pepiot has been the poster child for hating George M. Steinbrenner Field, as he’s surrendered 1.75 opponent home runs per nine at the Yankees’ Spring Training complex compared to only 0.59 long balls per nine of the road. Add in Jack Flaherty’s recent struggles — he owns a 10.50 ERA since June 14 — and you can see how Tampa is live on the moneyline this evening.

Brewers ML (+105)

Jacob Misiorowski finally got touched up in his last outing, but across four appearances at the MLB level, the flame-throwing rookie still possesses a 3.20 ERA and a 2.46 xERA. This is still the same guy who conceded just three hits over his first 16.0 innings of action with the Brewers. Don’t let one poor start phase you too much. It’s also not like the Dodgers enter this contest in all that great a shape. Max Muncy (knee) has recently joined Los Angeles’ glut of pitchers on the IL and, without the slugging third baseman in the lineup, the Dodgers have lost four straight. Heck, across the past two weeks, Milwaukee owns a far better wRC+ (111) than Los Angeles does (97). Side with the home dog in this one, especially considering the Brewers are 28-17 at American Family Field in 2025.

Athletics ML (+100)

This is all about not trusting Didier Fuentes. The 20-year-old is simply not ready to pitch at the big league level, and I think that’s been more than evident in Fuentes’ first three starts, as he’s surrendered 12 earned runs across 12.0 innings. On top of that red flag, let’s talk about the Braves’ bats. Despite a lineup littered with big names, Atlanta just isn’t scoring runs. Over the past 14 days, the Braves are slashing .229/.305/.354 with an 86 wRC+ and a 26.2% strikeout rate that leads the National League. Knowing all that, is it any surprise that Atlanta’s dropped its last four games? How about that its lost nine of its last 11 contests overall? The Athletics aren’t great, either, but they will have a real MLB caliber starter toeing the rubber on Tuesday in the form of Jeffrey Springs. The lefty has a 2.73 ERA over his last five starts. He could easily pick up his seventh win of the season tonight.
