The Astros sure look like they’ve got World Series hopes crackling in the clubhouse after this past weekend’s sweep. Now, former AL-Pennant foes kick off a series tonight! Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday night baseball game between the Astros and the Guardians.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Astros vs. Guardians prediction, preview
Houston enters this game with every indicator flashing green. Their bats are dialed in, averaging six runs per game over their last ten. They’ve gone 8-2 in that stretch, dominating with relentless pressure on opposing staffs. Colton Gordon starts for Houston, and while his 4.37 ERA looks pedestrian, the deeper numbers impress. His 3.92 xFIP shows his ERA is inflated by bad luck, not bad pitching. Gordon’s 26% K rate and sub-6% walk rate prove his command is sharp. His chase rate is elite, and Cleveland’s free-swinging tendencies will fuel it further tonight.
Cleveland counters with Tanner Bibee, who carries a 4.10 ERA into this matchup. His xFIP is worse—near 4.60—and he’s struggling to contain damage. Bibee’s hard-hit rate has ballooned above 40% over his last five starts. His HR/FB ratio in that stretch sits at an unsustainable 16%. That’s dangerous against a Houston lineup punishing mistakes right now. José Altuve is scorching with a .384 OBP and four homers in the last ten. Paredes and Bregman are squaring everything up, combining for seven homers in that same span.
Guardians vs. Astros pick, best bet
Cleveland’s offense looks lifeless by comparison. They’ve scored just 2.7 runs per game in their last seven. Their wRC+ in that stretch is a dismal 73. Their OPS against left-handed pitching is bottom-five in baseball. Gordon’s profile sets up perfectly to exploit that weakness. The Astros bullpen has been nails too, posting a 2.98 ERA over the last 30 days. Cleveland’s pen can’t match that, giving up too many walks and late damage.
The Guardians are just 4-13 as dogs of +130 or worse this season. They fold in these spots. Houston, by contrast, covers the runline in seven of its last nine wins. The over/under at 7.5 is tight, but Houston’s offensive form and Cleveland’s anemia tilt it toward the side. I’m locking in Astros -1.5. The value is clear, the numbers support it, and this is where sharp money should land. No hesitation. Houston covers.
Best bet: Astros -1.5 (+150) vs. Guardians
