Best Yu Darvish strikeout props for his season debut: Padres vs. Diamondbacks on 7/7/25

The San Diego Padres sit 48-41 on the campaign, good for second place in the NL West. Tonight, they receive reinforcements as veteran pitcher Yu Darvish finally makes his 2025 season debut at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The 38-year-old hasn’t thrown an inning at the MLB level this year due to elbow inflammation, but he’s now healthy and fully ready for a return to the mound.

Here’s the top Yu Darvish strikeout prop for tonight’s Padres vs. Diamondbacks matchup.

Best Yu Darvish strikeout prop bet

Darvish may be 38 years old, but the experienced righty still looked plenty capable last time we saw him on the MLB bump. Last season, he tossed 81.2 innings with a 3.31 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over that span while striking out 78 batters. His 8.60 K/9 was a career-low, but he still ranked 72nd percentile in chase percentage and was essentially league-average with 50th and 54th percentile rankings in whiff percentage and strikeout percentage.

While his extended absence means he may not be in peak form, Darvish has taken plenty of time to rest his arm and get fully healthy before retaking the mound tonight. He last threw a rehab start in Triple-A back on May 14, throwing four innings with two hits allowed, two earned runs, one walk, and four strikeouts. Darvish did pitch a sim game last Tuesday in which he threw 64 pitches per CBS Sports, so the biggest concern for the veteran tonight is what mark his pitch count will be set at.

There’s no true over/under on strikeouts available for Darvish on DraftKings Sportsbook, but bettors can still place wagers on him through alt lines. The ladder is set as follows.

  • 3+ strikeouts (-400)
  • 4+ strikeouts (-155)
  • 5+ strikeouts (+145)
  • 6+ strikeouts (+340)

Darvish doesn’t appear likely to stay in the game for an extended stint, so it’s probably best to bank on him to pitch around three to four innings. With that in mind, I would personally advise staying away from the 6+ strikeouts line despite the value there simply due to the pitch count tonight. The value on 3+ strikeouts also doesn’t hold much appeal, leaving us with just two options here.

At this point, it depends on preference and bettor risk tolerance. If Darvish goes four innings, 4+ strikeouts feels like a solid goal since he hasn’t pitched in an MLB game since last season’s playoffs. The -155 value on this line does seem fair and it’s the safer play in his return to the mound. For what it’s worth, Darvish also tallied at least four strikeouts in 11 of his 16 appearances last season, so it was a reliable line in his most recent sample of MLB action.

While it’s not the exciting pick, I’ll be playing it safe and taking the Padres hurler to record 4+ punchouts at -155 odds. With a pitch count and likely-limited outing, it feels like the better option as I’ll get my adrenaline just from seeing Darvish pitch again this evening.
