When will Yu Darvish make his season debut?

Yu Darvish experienced right elbow inflammation in March. There was optimism that he would be able to return in May, as he threw bullpen sessions and made a rehab start in Triple-A, but he suffered a setback and was pushed back.

Well, the time is nigh. After some bullpen sessions and a simulated game, Darvish will make his season debut on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

At 38 years old, Darvish is a shell of his dominant self, but he’s proven to still be an effective pitcher. We shall see if the recent elbow injury sapped anything, but Darvish was averaging 94 mph on the fastball last season and still possesses a robust arsenal of pitches to deploy.

The strikeout rate has been in the 24% range over the past few seasons while the K-BB% has been in the 17% area. The FIP has been around 4 the last two seasons.

So far this season, Arizona is 19th in strikeouts, first in ISO and first in wOBA against right-handed pitching.
