Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Houston Astros prediction, pick for Sunday 7/6/25

Two heavyweight offenses collide under the California sun, each hungry to set the tone before the All-Star break. The Dodgers, baseball’s top scoring machine, will not tolerate another home defeat. The Astros, riding a tidal wave of confidence, look to complete a ruthless sweep. The stakes are massive, the bats are dangerous, the fans are hot. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday baseball game between the Dodgers and the Astros.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Dodgers vs. Astros prediction, preview

The Dodgers are too proud to get swept at home, yet the Astros smell blood. I see an explosive script unfolding at Dodger Stadium. Both offenses pack relentless power. The Dodgers rank first in runs (499), first in homers (141), and boast a scorching .457 slugging percentage. Houston’s bats have been red-hot, averaging 5.2 runs per game across their last 13 contests. These lineups don’t blink in big moments, and they’ll feast on two pitchers carrying vulnerability into this matchup.

Colton Gordon’s 4.37 ERA and 1.41 WHIP spell trouble against this Dodgers machine. His 1.11 HR/9 rate and .326 opponent average third time through the order are flashing warning signs. Los Angeles destroys lefties, slugging .473 against southpaws this season. Gordon’s 4.39 road ERA and 11.4 hits per nine innings reinforce the risk. On the other side, Sheehan may have shown promise in four innings, but he’s a blank slate against this level of lineup. His 64 career innings carry a 4.77 ERA and 4.7 FIP. That won’t cut it tonight.

There’s a tempting case for the under based on park factor (0.94 run factor at Dodger Stadium) and afternoon shadows. But I won’t get cute. The bullpens have been taxed. The Dodgers pen covered over seven innings Friday, and their leverage arms have been leaned on repeatedly. Houston’s pen is better but could be asked to bridge too many innings if Gordon stumbles. Both offenses are primed to cash in.

Astros vs. Dodgers pick, best bet

Forget any notion that these lineups stay quiet. The over is 5-2 in the last seven head-to-head meetings. It’s hit in eight of the Dodgers’ last nine home games versus AL West opponents. The first-inning run market has smashed in 13 straight Dodger Stadium matchups of this type. That tells me the fireworks will start early and won’t let up.

Some will argue the shadows or bullpens will suppress scoring. That’s wishful thinking. When you have the league’s most powerful offense at home and a visiting team swinging freely, you bet on runs. I see the Dodgers doing damage against Gordon’s fly-ball tendencies and Houston finding opportunities versus Sheehan and a worn-down bullpen.

I’m locking in over nine runs (-120) with absolute conviction. These lineups will not waste this stage. Expect double-digit runs, early action, and a game that delivers on its offensive promise.

Best bet: Dodgers vs. Astros o9.0 total runs (-120)
