Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Kansas City Royals prediction, pick for Sunday 7/6/25

The Diamondbacks sit on the edge of the National League playoff race, desperate to seize momentum at home. The Royals limp in, their bats ice-cold on the road and their pitching vulnerable against true power. Everything about this contest points to a team with purpose facing a team gasping for answers. Chase Field’s atmosphere will be electric as Arizona’s lineup looks to pounce early and often, turning this into a statement game. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday baseball game between the Diamondbacks and the Royals.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Diamondbacks vs. Royals prediction, preview

Kansas City averages just 3.33 runs per game, dead last in baseball. Their team slugging sits at a feeble .364, and they’ve hit just 61 home runs all season. That’s bottom of the barrel, and it’s not changing today. Arizona’s offense, by contrast, ranks third in MLB with 461 runs and fourth in homers at 131. They mash at Chase Field, putting up 5.18 runs per game on average, with a team slugging of .448 that buries Kansas City’s output.

Michael Lorenzen won’t be the guy to stop this freight train. His 4.95 ERA and 1.37 WHIP are red flags. He’s served up 17 homers in 92.2 innings, which spells doom against a lineup stacked with power bats like Suarez (28 homers) and Naylor (.822 OPS). The Royals’ bullpen can’t save them either. Despite their respectable 3.51 ERA, they’ll be gassed early after Lorenzen labors. Arizona’s bats should force him out by the fifth.

Arizona’s key hitters are scorching. Josh Naylor enters batting .302 with a .356 OBP and is driving the middle of this lineup with 43 RBIs over his last 50 games. Eugenio Suarez has crushed nine homers in his last 20 games, flashing his ability to change a game in one swing. Corbin Carroll, freshly back from injury, brings game-changing speed (21 steals) and slugging (.502 SLG at Chase Field). He sets the table for Arizona’s fireworks. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has a seven-game hit streak and owns a .290 average with runners in scoring position this season, a stat that looms large today.

I love how Arizona sets the tone early. They’ve led after five innings in six of their last seven home games against AL opponents with losing records. Their first five innings run differential at home is +1.4 over their last ten games, showing they jump on teams early. Arizona’s .340 team wOBA at home ranks top five in MLB, while Kansas City’s .291 team wOBA on the road is bottom three. The Diamondbacks don’t just score—they pile up extra-base hits. They’re second in MLB in triples and rank seventh in isolated power (.188 ISO).

Royals vs. Diamondbacks pick, best bet

Lorenzen’s advanced metrics show more cracks. His xERA of 5.10 and xFIP of 4.76 point to even worse expected results. His 37% hard-hit rate and 9.2% barrel rate will get punished by this power-heavy lineup in a hitter’s park. Lorenzen’s strikeout rate of just 19.3% is well below league average, and Arizona’s bats will make contact early and often. Chase Field’s gaps and Arizona’s aggressiveness on the bases will stretch Kansas City thin.

Add in the 107°F Phoenix heat, which will have the roof closed and the air conditioning pumping, limiting any freak factors. This is a controlled environment where the better lineup thrives. Arizona’s bullpen, despite its warts, is more than capable of protecting a lead built on early offense. The Royals simply can’t match this firepower, not with a lineup slugging .303 over the last week and striking out at a 25% clip on this road trip.

I’m locked in on Arizona -1.5, and I expect them to win comfortably by maybe even three-plus runs. The value is too strong,

Best bet: Diamondbacks -1.5 (+130) vs. Royals
