Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins left today’s game against the Miami Marlins with what the team is calling left thumb discomfort. He was officially taken out of the game in the fifth inning when he was replaced by Jake Bauers.
The injury itself seemed to stem from a play the inning before. Hoskins was pulled off the bag on a groundball to shortstop, which forced him to apply a tag to get the out. The 32-year-old executed the tag but looked to be in pain immediately after. He finished the inning but was taken out before the Brewers took the field again.
Hoskins has been solid in his second season with the Brewers and suited up for 83 of a possible 89 games to this point. He is slashing .239/.335/.418 with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs. The former Phillies standout has still yet to fully find his peak in his new home, but has been much better than he was in his first season.
The Brewers hold a record of 49-39 on the season and are in second place in the National League Central. They hold the fifth-best odds of winning the National League on DraftKings Sportsbook at +1700 odds and 12th-best World Series odds in the league.
Milwaukee will need Hoskins back on the field as soon as possible, and hopefully for him to reach a level he has not quite reached with this team yet.
