Jonathan Kuminga was selected with the seventh overall pick in 2021 NBA Draft by the Warriors, and he has yet to truly live up to that potential. After posting a career-high 16.1 points per game on 52.9% shooting in 2023, Kuminga regressed this past season, scoring just 15.1 on a career-low 45.4% from the field.
Steve Kerr really limited Kuminga’s minutes this past season as well, going down from 26.4 in 2023 to 24.3 last year. The Warriors will now have a big decision to make, as the 22-year-old is a restricted free agent. There are a bunch of teams that have been linked to him, including the Bulls, Heat and Kings.
Anthony Slater of The Athletic is reporting that the Warriors are looking for a “promising young player” and a first-round pick if they were to move Kuminga.
NBA Insider Jake Fischer is also reporting that a potential trade for Kuminga could include the Kings, who would ship off combo-guard Malik Monk to Golden State. Monk is in the midst of a four-year, $77 million contract, so any deal for the Warriors PF would likely be of the sign-and-trade variety.
In addition, the latest report from NBA Insider Marc Stein is that the Warriors are serious contenders to sign veteran PF Al Horford, which would all but mean Kuminga will not be returning for the 2025-26 season.
