Brewers at Mets NRFI (-125)
Thursday’s matchup in Queens pits two clubs going in opposite directions. The Mets have stumbled through a June swoon, dropping out of first place in the NL East. It’s the opposite story for the Brewers, who have surged into postseason contention over the past few weeks. Tonight, Jose Quintana will take the mound for Milwaukee in the final game of this series. The veteran has enjoyed another solid season, posting a 3.30 ERA over 11 starts. He’s set to face his old club, New York, in what could be an advantageous matchup. This season, the Mets have accounted for baseball’s ninth-highest NRFI rate (73.56%).
For the home team, it’ll be David Peterson toeing the slab. It’s been a breakout campaign for the southpaw, who has emerged as a key contributor in this Mets rotation. Through 95.1 innings of work, the 29-year-old has notched a 3.30 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 83 strikeouts. The Brewers, for all their success on offense, are slow starters. Milwaukee owns the league’s sixth-highest NRFI rate at 75.58%. In addition, Peterson has allowed just two first inning runs this season (1.13 ERA).
Royals at Mariners NRFI (-145)
As a nightcap, two of the American League’s best arms are meeting in Seattle. The visiting Royals are handing the ball to Seth Lugo, set to make his 16th appearance of the season. Despite a lack of run support, the lefty has been outstanding this season. Through 88.2 innings of work, the veteran owns a sparkling 2.74 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 76 strikeouts. Most impressive has been the righty’s consistency; he’s allowed more than three runs only twice this season. When playing at home, the Mariners have scored the tenth-fewest runs per game in baseball.
To counter Kansas City’s ace, Seattle will turn to Logan Evans. The 24-year-old has spent time between the majors and Triple-A Tacoma, getting called up for this series finale. While pitching for the Mariners, Evans has looked solid. The rookie has put up a 3.38 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 30 strikeouts over 40.0 innings this season. Tonight’s matchup is promising for anyone, especially at T-Mobile Park. The Royals are averaging 3.30 runs per game, the lowest mark in baseball. Don’t overthink things; these two pitchers should have no trouble starting off strong on Thursday.
