A potential low-scoring affair is on tap tonight at T-Mobile Park. The Royals are sending Seth Lugo to the bump, while the Mariners will trot out Logan Evans. With these two pitchers in action, can bettors trust either of these lineups? Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Thursday’s contest between the Royals and Mariners.
The Mariners are favorites (-123) over the Royals, with the over/under set at 7.5 runs. Let’s break down which side has the edge on DraftKings Sportsbook entering tonight’s matchup.

As previously mentioned, this is a battle between two of the American League’s best arms. Let’s start with the visitors and Lugo, named to his first All-Star Game last season. The veteran has a strong chance at a repeat trip to the Midsummer Classic, thanks to some impressive numbers. Over 88.2 innings of work, the righty has notched a 2.74 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 76 strikeouts. Most impressive has been the 36-year-old’s consistency; he’s allowed more than three runs only twice this season.
Unlike years past, the 2025 Mariners can rake. Cal Raleigh’s crew is averaging 4.56 runs per game, the 13th-highest mark in baseball. However, this lineup often struggles inside the pitcher-friendly confines of T-Mobile Park. Seattle is scoring the tenth-fewest runs per game in baseball this season (4.07). That’s not to say the M’s are incapable of putting up a crooked number in the Emerald City. Still, it’s not exactly the greatest omen heading into a meeting with Lugo.
To keep Kansas City at bay, the Mariners will hand the ball to Evans. Tonight will mark the rookie’s eighth career start in the majors. Recently recalled from Triple-A Tacoma, the right-hander has been solid thus far. Through 40.0 innings, Evans has accounted for a 3.38 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 30 strikeouts. However, it’s also fair to say that the 24-year-old has gotten a bit lucky; look no further than his 4.77 FIP.
Fortunately for Evans and Seattle, this matchup is about as good as it gets for any hurler. The Royals enter Thursday as the lowest-scoring offense in baseball, averaging a pathetic 3.30 runs per game. Just three KC regulars have a wRC+ above 100, including superstar shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. However, Kansas City only has the league’s 12th-worst batting average against right-handed pitchers (.247). That’s not anything to write home about, but a contact-oriented approach might pay dividends tonight. Evans is allowing a whopping 9.2 hits per nine innings this season.

Kansas City hasn’t given bettors much reason for optimism this season. Still, an ace such as Lugo is capable of dominating most lineups. If the Royals produce a few hits against Evans, they should score enough in this one.
