Tonight’s first matchup of a three-game season series between the Nationals and Tigers will be postponed due to rain and inclement weather at Nationals Park.
The game was originally scheduled for a 6:45 p.m. EST start, but instead they’ll play a doubleheader on July 2nd. Game 1 will take place at 1:05 p.m. ET. Game 2 is set for 6:45 p.m. E.T.
The Tigers will hit the road and enter tonight’s matchup having won five of their last seven games. At 53-32, Detroit leads the AL Central by 11.5 games and ranks third in team ERA and ninth in total homers. Jack Flaherty will draw the start tonight, entering with a 4.80 ERA and a team-high 35 walks allowed.
Washington finds itself in last place in the NL East with a 35-49 record, thanks to a brutal 11-game losing streak in early June. Still, the Nationals are tied with the Marlins for the lowest average age in the MLB, so the struggles are expected. While 22-year-old James Wood has been lighting it up with 22 homers and 64 RBIs, Washington’s pitching has been rough and ranks 28th in team ERA. Trevor Williams will take the mound, sporting a 5.65 ERA and a 3-9 record across 12 starts.
