Boston Red Sox vs. Cincinnati Reds prediction, pick for Monday 6/30/25

The Red Sox limp into Fenway tonight, losers in seven of their last eight and fading fast in the AL East race. Cincinnati arrives with confidence, having won five of seven and surging toward an NL Wild Card spot. The Reds thrive on the road and have handled AL teams well, but tonight they face Garrett Crochet’s dominant left arm. This is a momentum-defining clash, with Fenway’s tight dimensions and a restless crowd setting the stage. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday baseball game between the Red Sox and the Reds.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Red Sox vs. Reds prediction, preview

This is the kind of matchup that demands precision and aggression from the first pitch. Garrett Crochet is the ultimate weapon for Boston tonight, bringing a 2.06 ERA and 11.1 K/9 rate into a spot where his dominance can dictate everything. The Reds strike out 25% of the time against left-handed pitching, the seventh-highest clip in baseball. That number spikes to 27% on the road. Crochet’s slider owns a 44% whiff rate. Cincinnati will chase it and look foolish doing so. His 47.9% ground ball rate keeps the ball out of the seats at Fenway, where the park’s 1.38 home run factor otherwise spells trouble for high-fly pitchers. Opponents are slugging just .343 against him this season, and he’s holding right-handed hitters to a .206 average.

Boston’s offense has been inconsistent, but there’s no denying they’re built to feast on rookie mistakes. Chase Burns is walking into Fenway with a 48% fly ball rate and a heater that rides up in the zone. Boston lefties slug .450 against high fastballs from right-handers. The Green Monster is waiting for him. Burns struck out eight Yankees last time out, but let’s not pretend this is repeatable without hiccups. His 5.40 ERA and .282 opponent average highlight how hard contact burned him. Boston ranks top five in doubles for a reason—they hammer mistakes in hitter-friendly counts. Wilyer Abreu enters hitting .310 over his last nine games with a .483 slugging mark. Jarren Duran’s xwOBA against fastballs is .362 this season, and he’s ripped seven extra-base hits in his last 11 games.

Boston’s been ice cold at the plate. They’ve averaged 2.7 runs per game over their last seven losses. That’s what keeps this line honest. But this is a prime bounce-back opportunity. The Red Sox are 4-1 ATS in their last five following a home loss. When favored at Fenway with Crochet on the mound, they cover. Period. Cincinnati is just 5-14 in their last 19 meetings with Boston. The Reds have momentum—no denying they’ve gone 14-7 in their last 21—but matchups matter. The Red Sox shut down their strengths. Crochet’s quick delivery (1.1 seconds to the plate) neutralizes Cincinnati’s running game. Their top-five steals count won’t matter tonight. Elly De La Cruz has clubbed four homers in his last six games but also owns a 35% K rate this month. TJ Friedl’s hard-hit rate over the past two weeks has dipped to 29%, well below his season average of 37%.

Reds vs. Red Sox pick, best bet

Cincinnati’s bullpen is the one potential equalizer. A 3.47 ERA, fifth in baseball, speaks for itself. But with Crochet working deep—he averages 6.5 innings per Fenway start—this advantage gets minimized. Boston’s bullpen is a problem, but tonight it won’t decide the game. The first five innings belong to Crochet, and that’s where the game is won. The under has hit in seven of the last nine Fenway meetings between these clubs. Tonight’s weather—mid-70s, light breeze blowing in—keeps balls in the yard and leans toward pitching suppression.

I’m locking in Red Sox -1.5 at +115 because Crochet is the difference. Burns may flash again, but Fenway punishes even small mistakes. Boston scrapes together enough against a rookie finding his feet, and Crochet slams the door. This is a 4-2 win with the Red Sox covering late. There’s no better spot for Boston to stop their slide.

Best bet: Red Sox -1.5 (+120) vs. Reds
