All 30 teams will be in action across today’s MLB slate. The Cardinals and Guardians kicked off the day as the lone 12:05 start. Five games began at 1:35, with plenty more throughout the afternoon. This will build out to a Sunday Night Baseball matchup between the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers as Tariq Skubal faces off with Chris Paddock. This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for today’s action, 6/29/25. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on tonight’s MLB slate.
Isaac Paredes More Than 1.5 Total Bases
The Houston Astros will host the Chicago Cubs today with Jameson Tallion on the mound. The 33-year-old enters with a 4.47 ERA and has allowed a National League-worst 21 home runs already this season. He has given up 81 hits and 45 earned runs across his first 90.2 innings pitched this season. Tallion is allowing 2.08 home runs per nine innings and a .556 slugging percentage against right-handed hitters.
Enter Isaac Paredes as the guy capable of doing some damage today. The Astros’ third baseman is slashing .254/.360/.471 with a .830 OPS on the season. He is a heavy pull hitter, and the wind should be blowing out over the left-field fence. Paredes enters today’s game having tallied two hits in back-to-back games and having hit a home run yesterday. He is 1-for-3 at the plate against Tallion in his career. While I think he is in play for a home run again today, I am going a bit safer and taking him to produce more than 1.5 total bases. Expect Paredes to be ready to capitalize on a vulnerable pitch from Tallion and deliver for this Astros team.
Julio Rodriguez More Than 0.5 RBIs
It has been an underwhelming start to the season for Julio Rodriguez, but he remains one of the brighter young talents in the league. The Mariners centerfielder is slashing .254/.314/.407 which each mark career lows. He also has tallied just 11 home runs and 42 RBIs on the season, but is capable of much more than this.
This will be an intriguing opportunity to get back on the right track, as Rodriguez is set to face off against Jack Leiter and the Texas Rangers. The right-hander holds a 6.06 career ERA and enters with a 42.5% hard-hit rate and 11.4% barrel rate on the season. It will be 90+ degrees down in Texas with the roof wide open. Rodriguez has faced off against Leiter eight times in their careers, with three hits and two home runs produced. The two-time All-Star is showing some signs of life at the plate and has eight RBIs tallied in his past seven games. This is the type of matchup that Rodriguez should be itching for. Whether it is driving himself in with a home run or knocking home one of his teammates who have done a nice job getting on base of late, I like Rodriguez to add to his RBI total tonight.
James Wood More Than 0.5 Home Runs
James Wood enters the day as one of the hottest hitters in the Major Leagues. Over his past 12 games, he is posting a 1.077 OPS with a .667 slugging percentage, 30 total bases, five home runs, and 15 RBIs. Wood is up to 22 home runs already on the season and has a great chance to add to this in the matchup with the Angels today.
Jack Kochanowicz will be on the mound for Los Angeles in the matchup. He has allowed 13 home runs to left-handed hitters this season and just two to right-handed hitters. Kochaniwicz is allowing 1.65 home runs per nine innings overall and posting a concerning 47.1% hard-hit rate and .537 slugging percentage to lefties. Wood will punish you if a pitch is left hanging, and Kochanowicz does this at a far too regular rate. He has four home runs in his past nine games and expect him to add to this total in the friendly matchup today.
Ketel Marte More Than 1.5 Total Bases
It has been an emotional stretch for Ketel Marte, but he is producing at a high level for this Diamondbacks team. Marte is slashing .306/.407/.592 with a 1.000 OPS on the season, which each mark career-highs. He has been especially hot of late, with all 16 of his home runs coming since May 8th. The former Silver Slugger has had eight multi-hit games in June and has 33 total bases in his past nine games.
Cal Quantrill will be on the mound for the Marlins today. The 30-year-old has some pretty significant splits against hitters, with left-handers struggling, but right-handers are hitting .368 with a 1.059 OPS against Quantrill. Marte is a switch-hitter and has faced Quantrill 11 times in his career. He has three hits across this stretch, including a home run. Look for the hot streak to continue and for Marte to tally more than 1.5 total hits for the seventh time in the past 10 games.
Tarik Skubal More Than 18.5 Outs Recorded
All eyes will be on Tarik Skubal in tonight’s Sunday Night Baseball matchup. Last year’s Cy Young winner has been the best pitcher in baseball this season. Skubal is posting a 2.29 ERA with 125 strikeouts in 102.0 innings pitched. This is a friendly matchup for Skual to add to his production against this Twins team. Minnesota ranks 22nd in the MLB in batting average, 16th in runs, and 15th in total bases.
Looking at the length of Skubal’s starts, he has tallied more than 18.5 outs in seven of his 16 starts, including one complete game on the year. He has pitched past this point in four of his past six starts and feels like he is just finding his stride on the season. With the bright lights of Sunday Night baseball on him, expect Skubal to be ready to pitch deep against this mediocre Minnesota offense.
Chris Paddack Less Than 2.5 Earned Runs
On the other side of this pitching matchup enters Chris Paddack. The 29-year-old will be making his 17th start of the season and enters with a 4.64 ERA and has allowed 81 hits in his first 85.1 innings pitched. The Twins can be cautious with his work rate, with Paddack being limited to 5.0 innings or fewer in 10 of his 16 starts. This can help limit the potential for earned runs, and Paddack has been successful in holding opponents to less than 2.5 earned runs in 10 of his starts as well.
Detroit has a respectable lineup, but Paddack looked sharp in his first start against them. During this April 12th matchup, Paddack pitched 5.0 innings and allowed just two hits, one earned run, and struck out five. Expect tonight to be a pitchers’ duel and for the Twins starter to hold up his end of the bargain. Runs will not be easy to come by against Skubel, and Paddack will need a strong outing for the Twins to have a chance. Count on him to deliver and hold the Tigers to less than 2.5 earned runs tonight.
