Here’s one that screams offense. Miami’s bats have erupted for 49 runs over their last six, turning every at-bat into a threat. Arizona, desperate to halt its slide, leans on its potent home power, ranking second in MLB slugging at .448. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday baseball game between the Diamondbacks and the Marlins.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Diamondbacks vs. Marlins prediction, preview
Miami enters Chase Field riding an eight-game road win streak, fueled by a .316/.370/.521 slash line this week. They’re punishing mistakes, with 17 extra-base hits over 190 at-bats. The Marlins have averaged 7.67 runs during this stretch and have gone over the total in four straight games. Their road success as big underdogs is impossible to ignore—they’re 16-8 to the over this season when catching +150 or longer. Arizona counters with raw power, boasting a .259 home average and the second-best slugging mark in baseball at .448. They’ve launched 56 home runs in 40 home games and rank second in doubles with 148. The Diamondbacks’ lineup has produced five or more runs in seven of their last nine games at Chase Field, capitalizing on weak opposing pitching.
Both lineups are built to punish underwhelming arms, and that’s exactly what they’re getting today. Cal Quantrill’s 5.56 ERA and 1.46 WHIP tell part of the story. His 17.6% strikeout rate is well below league average, and his 7% walk rate compounds the problem. Righties have tattooed him for a .375 wOBA over the last 30 days, and his 36.7% line drive rate allowed to righties is one of the worst marks in MLB during that span. He’s already given up 10 home runs in 68 innings and faces a Diamondbacks lineup with a .216 ISO against righties in the last month. Eugenio Suarez leads that charge with 25 homers and 67 RBIs, entering this game slashing .375 over his last five contests. Josh Naylor’s .304 average and Ketel Marte’s .306 average with 16 homers provide constant danger in the heart of the order.
Marlins vs. Diamondbacks pick, best bet
Eduardo Rodriguez isn’t built to suppress damage either. His 5.40 ERA and 1.58 WHIP reflect persistent contact and command issues. He’s allowing 1.49 homers per nine innings, and righties have touched him up for a .312 wOBA the last 30 days. His 3.67 FIP in June looks decent, but he’s still served up 11 long balls in under 67 innings this season. The Marlins’ red-hot lineup is built to expose him. Otto Lopez is on a nine-game hit streak, batting .400 over his last 10 games with two homers and 13 RBIs. Kyle Stowers leads Miami with 13 homers and continues to deliver in high-leverage spots. Xavier Edwards brings steady contact at .279, keeping innings alive for the power bats. Miami has posted 49 runs in their last six games and shows no signs of slowing.
The bullpens offer no relief. Arizona’s home bullpen ERA is 5.63. Miami’s road bullpen ERA is 4.53. Both pens have been leaking runs late, turning tight games into slugfests. The over is 9-3 in Arizona’s last 12, and 5-1 in these teams’ last six meetings. The ‘Inning 1 over 0.5 runs’ has hit in five straight Miami day games. The trends point one way. I’m locking in the over nine runs.
Best bet: Diamondbacks vs. Marlins o9.0 total runs (-120)
