This will be the second matchup of the series after a convincing 13-0 victory by the Phillies last night. The game was delayed by rain, resulting in Mick Abel being scratched from the start, but this weather did not slow down the Phillies’ bats.
Jesus Luzardo will get the start for the Phillies tonight while Spencer Schwellenbach will start for the Braves.

There have been plenty of inconsistencies with this Phillies offense, but Trea Turner has not been a part of this. The Phillies paid a premium to bring the three-time All-Star to Philadelphia, and the player they paid for has finally arrived. He is in the midst of his best season with the team, and the Phillies have needed every bit of the production he has provided. Turner is slashing .302/.356/.465 while leading the National League with 100 hits.
Turner has been especially strong of late and is coming off a two-home-run performance and 11 total bases last night. The former Silver Slugger has tallied a hit in 15 of his past 21 games. He has tallied 2+ total bases in six of his past 12 games and at least two total bases in 34 games overall this season. Turner has looked especially comfortable since sliding back to the leadoff spot and will be hitting from this position tonight.
Schwellenbach has faced Turner 12 times in his career. The Phillies’ shortstop has had solid success, tallying three total hits, including a double, in just three plate appearances this season. Schwellenbach will make life difficult, but count on Turner remaining hot and recording at least two total bases tonight.
Jesus Luzardo Over 16.5 Outs Recorded (-120)
The Phillies had to dig into their bullpen last night due with Abel’s last-minute scratch. Philadelphia managed to avoid using most of its high-leverage arms due to the nature of the blowout, but still could use a long start from Luzardo tonight.
Luzardo came to the Phillies as their biggest offseason acquisition and has produced to this point. The former Marlins standout has already eclipsed the number of innings he pitched last year, with injuries being a factor in this. Through his opening 16 starts, Luzardo is posting a 4.08 ERA across 90.1 innings, while striking out 104 batters. His ERA is a bit distorted, with 20 of his 41 total earned runs coming in two games.
Luzardo has tallied over 16.5 outs in nine of the 16 starts. This includes going 6.0 innings during his first matchup with the Braves this season. His brief struggles seemed to be stemming from tipping pitches, but he’s cleaned this up. He is coming off a scoreless, 6.2 inning outing in which he conceded just three hits. The 27-year-old has been open about how much it fires him up to pitch in high-leverage games, and he will have the opportunity against this NL East rival. Count on Luzardo producing to his standard and recording over 16.5 outs tonight.
