You’re forgiven if this game isn’t exactly at the top of your personal must-watch list on Friday night.
Obviously, the presence of the lowly White Sox looms large in this matchup, but it’s not like the Giants have been all that much better as of late. In fact, after getting swept at home by the Marlins earlier this week, San Francisco has now dropped seven of its last 10 contests. Woof.

Giants vs. White Sox prediction, preview
Landed Roupp is far from a household name, but the young right-hander is having a very solid campaign for the Giants in 2025. Over 15 starts and 76.0 innings of work, Roupp has pitched to a 3.67 ERA and a 3.73 FIP. However, for the purposes of tonight specifically, we have to dig a little deeper into the 26-year-old’s home/road splits. Like many San Francisco starters before him, Roupp has preferred to take the mound at the always pitcher-friendly Oracle Park so far this season, where he’s registered stunning marks in ERA (1.85) and FIP (2.66). His performance on the road has been a much different story, as that’s where he’s allowed all seven home runs he’s surrendered in 2025, which has translated to an ugly 5.14 ERA. It’s a little Jekyll and Hyde.
That said, this is about as soft of a matchup as you could ask for. Across the last 14 days, the White Sox are slashing .208/.276/.340 as a team with a 72 wRC+. Chicago’s lineup is certainly a little more interesting in its current form than in years past, with the additions of young talent like Chase Meidroth, Kyle Teel and Miguel Vargas leading the charge, but it’s a very inconsistent aspect of the team. A recent injury to Luis Robert Jr. (hamstring) doesn’t help matters, either.
On the bump for the White Sox on Friday? That would be Aaron Civale, set to make his third start with Chicago since demanding a trade out of Milwaukee. In 34.0 innings of work with the two clubs in 2025, Civale has struggled, registering a 5.03 ERA and a 5.52 FIP. As per usual, home runs have been the issue with the veteran RHP. Civale has conceded a whopping 1.85 per nine this season. In 2024? Civale gave up 29 long balls. The seventh-most of any pitcher in the league. With the wind blowing out tonight in the south side, it could be a long game for Civale.

Roupp has struggled on the road and Civale has struggled to keep the ball in the park.
