Extra innings are always prime time for drama, especially with the ghost runners on second. Every play has tension and can swing the game. Coming into the game as a pinch-hitter, Mariners utility player Miles Mastrobuoni may not have expected to save the game against the Rangers, but he did just that in the bottom of the eleventh inning.
Two outs. Based loaded. A pop fly drifts right into no-man’s land. It doesn’t get more dramatic than that.
It’s extremely impressive concentration for a player who entered the game late. As if it wasn’t enough heroics for him, he found himself at the plate in the next half-inning. So of course Mastrobuoni had to deliver in another huge moment.
With the game still going, maybe he’ll have another miracle play in his back pocket. You never know in extra innings.
