Cincinnati Reds vs. San Diego Padres prediction, pick for Friday 6/27/25

The Padres (44-36) roll in hot, winning four of five behind stellar pitching and Luis Arraez’s 12-game hitting streak. Cincinnati (42-39) just took a series from the Yankees and has won 12 of 18, fueled by Elly De La Cruz’s power. Both teams eye crucial wild card ground as this high-stakes series kicks off at Great American Ball Park. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Friday night baseball game between the Reds and the Padres.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Reds vs. Padres prediction, preview

Dylan Cease steps in with a 4.43 ERA and a troubling 1.29 WHIP across 87 innings. His xFIP sits at 3.80, hinting at some bad luck, but let’s not pretend his fly ball tendencies (37.2% FB rate) are suited for this hitter’s haven. Great American Ball Park ranks as MLB’s most homer-friendly venue this year, and Cease has already coughed up eight long balls. The weather adds fuel: temps in the mid-80s with humidity and a breeze blowing out. That’s a recipe for big flies.

Nick Martinez provides no comfort to under bettors. The Reds’ righty owns a 4.40 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and has surrendered 13 homers in just 86 innings. His ground ball rate sits at a pedestrian 35.1%, and he’s pitching on disrupted rest after recent bullpen duty. That spells danger against a Padres lineup featuring Machado (.298 AVG, 47 RBIs) and Tatis Jr. (15 HR, 37 RBIs), both of whom thrive against mistake pitches. Add Arraez’s .372 clip over his last ten games, and San Diego should have no trouble generating offense.

On the flip side, Elly De La Cruz is scorching. He’s slashing .341 with three bombs over his last ten contests. His hard-hit rate (45.3%) and elite sprint speed put constant pressure on any pitcher. The Reds slug .401 as a team, ranking 13th in homers, and they’ve plated 5.1 runs per game at home across their last ten.

Padres vs. Reds pick, best bet

Both bullpens are overworked. San Diego’s depth is thin, with key arms like Musgrove and King sidelined. Cincinnati’s pen owns a 4.17 FIP and has surrendered big innings lately. Trends back this: seven of the last nine Reds home games against San Diego have soared over the total.

Forget the mixed signals from recent unders. The conditions, the venue, the shaky starters, and the power bats all align for runs. I’m hammering the over nine with supreme confidence. These teams will light up the scoreboard.

Best bet: Reds vs. Padres o9.0 runs (-125)
