The Los Angeles Dodgers lit up the scoreboard last night at Coors Field in a 9-7 win over the Colorado Rockies. This evening, they look to run it back again at one of the MLB’s most hitter-friendly parks as they continue to pad their NL West lead.
Here’s a Rockies vs. Dodgers prediction and pick on DraftKings Sportsbook ahead of tonight’s 8:40 p.m. EST first pitch.
Rockies vs. Dodgers prediction, preview
Colorado Rockies
The Rockies fell to 18-61 on the campaign with last night’s loss as their stranglehold on the remains MLB’s worst record tightens. They’ll end up hard-pressed to beat the Dodgers tonight, but yesterday’s seven-run outing does show there’s a chance they can outscore one of the league’s best offenses.
The Rockies rank bottom-six in most team stats including AVG, OPS and runs scored on the season. They also unfortunately hold the second-most strikeouts and third-fewest walks, so the plate process looks pretty rough overall. The pitching staff’s ERA and WHIP are the worst in the MLB, so bets on the Dodgers offense hold plenty of appeal tonight.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers provide plenty of contrast with a 49-31 record and a great shot to win their 50th contest of the season tonight. If they do so, they’ll become the second team to reach the milestone this year and join the Detroit Tigers at that mark.
As mentioned in yesterday’s write-up, Los Angeles ranks first in most team stats on offense, and if they’re not in the lead, they’re likely within the top-10 spots at worst. They’re first in the MLB in AVG, OPS, runs scored and homers this year and just pummel opposing pitchers night in and night out. At a hitter-friendly park tonight, the trend should continue. While their arms rank 23rd in ERA and 21st in WHIP, they’re fifth in strikeouts and continue to get healthier as time passes.
Rockies vs. Dodgers pick, best bet
The Dodgers are an even heavier favorite tonight than they were yesterday with -348 odds to win on the Moneyline. The Rockies are +269 on the Moneyline themselves with a run total of 11.
The Rockies start Chase Dollander, a right-handed rookie with a 6.19 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through his first 12 MLB starts. Those numbers are inflated even for a hurler in a hitter-friendly park, and while he’s struck out 48 across his 56.1 innings, the matchup looks fantastic for Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers roll out Yoshinobu Yamamoto, another righty with a 2.76 ERA and 1.09 WHIP this season. He’s also struck out 95 batters across 84.2 innings, and while he’s struggled lately, he gives L.A. a strong advantage against a poor lineup.
Much like when I picked this game yesterday, I do like over 7.5 runs for Los Angeles at +100 odds, especially against a struggling pitcher. That team total does sit a bit high though, so I also think there’s value in many of Yamamoto’s prop bets for this evening.
The matchup leaves him in prime position to bounce back after a somewhat rough June thus far, and against a Rockies team which strikes out a ton, chasing over 6.5 strikeouts makes a lot of sense at -115 odds for the hurler. Additionally, laddering that to 8+ Ks holds some appeal at +170 since he’s reached that mark six times.
Best bet: Yoshinobu Yamamoto over 6.5 strikeouts (-115)
Slight lean: Dodgers over 7.5 runs (+100)
