Rocket Classic: First Round Leader Picks
The Rocket Classic is being played at Detroit Golf Club. Detroit Golf Club is a par 72 golf course and ranges 7,370 yards. Detroit Golf Club is an attackable course, but it does have challenging sloping greens that will reward the best lag putters. The Rocket Classic is a full-field event, which will have a standard cut after 36 holes. In the week following the exciting Travelers Championship, the field is lacking most of the top players in the world. However, the Travelers Championship winner Keegan Bradley will be in the field, along with other top players like Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay and Hideki Matsuyama. The defending champion of the Rocket Classic is Cam Davis, who will be back to defend his crown.
Cameron Young FRL (+4500)
Cameron Young has been finding some form in recent weeks as he battles to make the 2025 US Ryder Cup team. Young started May with a T-7 finish at the Truist Championship. In June, he had a solid T-25 finish at the Memorial Tournament, then finished T-4 at the RBC Canadian Open and T-4 at the U.S. Open. Last week at the Travelers Championship, Young had a strong opening round of 65, but struggled the rest of the tournament. Cameron Young has always performed brilliantly at the Rocket Classic. He has made two starts at this event and finished T-2 in 2022 and T-6 in 2024. The greens are the real challenge at this course, and Young has putted great this season. He is ninth on the PGA TOUR in strokes gained putting and 12th in one-putt percentage. Young can hit the ball a long way, then won’t face much challenge getting his iron shots tight. With his great putter, he has a chance to get hot on Thursday and take the first-round lead.
Harry Hall FRL (+5000)
Harry Hall is one of the most underrated players in golf. He got his first win on the PGA TOUR last season and has performed well so far this season. In 18 events played this season, he has nine top-25 finishes and four top-10 finishes. Hall has started to catch fire as of late, finishing in the top-25 in each of his past five tournaments. Those finishes include a T-19 at the PGA Championship in Hall’s second career major start and a T-9 at the Travelers Championship last week. Just like Cameron Young, Hall is one of the best putters on the planet. He ranks second on the PGA TOUR in strokes gained putting this season and first in putts per round. His overall game continues to improve as well, as he now ranks 12th on TOUR in strokes gained total. In a field missing some of the normal heavy hitters, Hall could emerge as the player who goes low and leads after Thursday’s round.
