One of the final games on Tuesday’s 15-game MLB slate takes place in sunny Los Angeles as the Angels host the Boston Red Sox at 9:38 p.m. EST. This marks the second outing of this series after the home team won last night’s by a 9-5 margin.
Here’s an Angels vs. Red Sox prediction and pick on DraftKings Sportsbook to prepare you for tonight’s first pitch.
Angels vs. Red Sox prediction, preview
Los Angeles Angels
The Angels now sit 38-40 after yesterday’s contest as they slowly fight their way up the AL West standings. While still below .500, the division seems fairly wide-open outside of the Astros at the top. At 5-5 across their last 10 games, the Angels don’t bring a ton of momentum into tonight’s outing, but they’re a feisty bunch.
The Los Angeles offense ranks 29th in AVG, 23rd in OPS and 19th in runs on the season. However, they’re 12th in OPS and seventh in runs over the last week. Zach Neto tallied three hits, two RBIs and a homer last night, while Mike Trout and LaMonte Wade Jr. each logged multi-hit games. The pitching staff does remain a problem though at 24th in ERA and 28th in WHIP.
Boston Red Sox
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 40-40 and have fallen all the way to fourth place in a competitive AL East. Despite the drop, they’re 6-4 in their last 10 games, but an 18-23 record on the road doesn’t exactly bode well tonight.
The Boston offense still ranks 13th in AVG, seventh in OPS and sixth in runs scored. However, those marks drop to 21st, 17th and 21st in each category over the last week as the team navigates a post-Rafael Devers world. They tallied nine hits last night from eight different players, but the Angels got the better of Boston’s pitching, which ranks 24th in ERA and 28th in WHIP this season.
Angels vs. Red Sox pick, best bet
The Red Sox are favored to shake off last night’s loss with -169 odds on the Moneyline tonight on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Angels are +138 to win outright, while the run total sits at eight.
Tonight’s game brings a battle between southpaws as L.A.’s Tyler Anderson duels Boston’s Garrett Crochet. Anderson has seen 81.0 innings of work with a 4.56 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 65 strikeouts on the season. As for Crochet, the ace boasts fantastic numbers across the board with a 2.20 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 125 punchouts across 102.1 innings.
I do feel confident that Crochet neutralizes the Angels’ offense in this one for as long as he’s in the game. If he goes six or seven innings deep, I absolutely see the Red Sox building up a bit of a lead and working to hold on through the final couple of frames. Yes, Boston may struggle as they adjust without Devers, but they’re still a very solid team with an edge over this Los Angeles squad. With that in mind, I’m taking Boston -1.5 tonight.
Best bet: BOS Red Sox -1.5 (-101)
