It’s another jam-packed night of MLB action coming your way on Tuesday. The 15-game slate gets started early this evening, when the Mets hope to get back on track against the rival Braves. Elsewhere, ancient rivals meet for just the second time this season when the Cubs take on the Cardinals. Later, it’s a 2022 World Series rematch when the Phillies visit the Astros in Houston.

Charlie Morton less than 2.5 earned runs
‘Rough start’ is putting it mildly for Charlie Morton this season. The two-time All-Star was looking absolutely putrid through seven starts, notching a 9.45 ERA. To no one’s surprise, the veteran was demoted to the bullpen, with his future looking murky in Baltimore. Luckily for the Orioles, their offseason acquisition has rebounded. Over Morton’s previous 35.1 innings of work, the right-hander has surrendered just nine earned runs (2.29 ERA).
It takes two to tango for this run total to go under. Fortunately, the Rangers are more than willing to not score some runs. This season, Texas is averaging 3.57 runs per game, the fifth-lowest mark in baseball. Things haven’t gotten much better recently. Over their last ten games, the Rangers have scored the league’s fewest amount of runs (27). Despite this lineup looking stacked on paper, it’s been months of ineptitude in the Lone Star State. It’s difficult to envision a slip-up from the suddenly surging Morton tonight.
Marcus Semien more than 0.5 hits
As bad as the Rangers have been on offense, a few names have been stepping up recently. That includes the incredibly streaky Marcus Semien, one of the more difficult players for fantasy managers to figure out. After a ghastly first few weeks, the second baseman appears to have gotten back on track. Since May 20th, the 34-year-old is hitting .296 with four home runs and 15 RBIs.
As previously mentioned, Charlie Morton has also put a difficult first few months behind him. However, the righty hasn’t been great in this spot throughout his 18-year career. When facing Morton, Semien has slashed .333/.385/.417 over 26 plate appearances. Keeping that in mind, one hit tonight in Baltimore feels like a reasonable ask from Texas’ three-time All-Star.
Spencer Strider more than 6.5 strikeouts thrown
This season has not gone to plan for most members of the Braves, including Spencer Strider. Atlanta’s ace has battled numerous injuries so far, sidelining him throughout most of April and part of May. However, the 26-year-old has appeared to pick up steam over the past few weeks. During his last five starts, Strider has accounted for a 3.25 ERA and 37 strikeouts.
Much like Morton, this bet needs a pitcher with momentum and an ice-cold lineup. Usually, that wouldn’t apply to tonight’s opponent, the Mets. However, things haven’t been going well in Queens lately; New York has dropped nine of its last ten games. During that time, the team has scored the fewest runs in the National League (30). Strider has recorded at least eight strikeouts in three of his last four meetings with the Mets. That includes a stellar six-inning outing last week. There’s no reason to think the fireballer can’t notch a few more punch outs on Tuesday.
Ronald Acuna Jr. more than 1.5 total bases
We’ll stay in Atlanta, where these two NL East rivals will do battle once again. One of the fun facts about this matchup is that each side employs an Acuna. For the Braves, its former MVP Ronald. The Mets were rostering Luisangel prior to Monday, when they sent the struggling infielder back to the minors. It’s safe to say that big brother paid attention last night. Four-time All-Star Ronald launched a home run in addition to a steal during Atlanta’s 3-2 win. Since returning from an ACL tear on May 23rd, the outfielder has slashed .396/.500/.713 with nine homers and 16 RBIs.
A scorching-hot superstar is already a major challenge for any pitcher. That’s especially true for Frankie Montas, making his first start of 2025. The former All-Star has been erratic in recent seasons, to say the least. Since 2022, the 32-year-old has posted a 4.43 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. The Mets have earned their reputation as a pitching lab, turning around several veteran starters. However, this is a difficult first appearance for any arm. Acuna Jr. should be salivating at this matchup; he’s hitting .446 against right-handers this season. One extra base hit (or a pair of singles) are the expectation for the slugger at this point.
Justin Verlander more than 4.5 strikeouts thrown
It was a mixed bag for Justin Verlander last week, making his first start in a month. Against the Guardians, JV tossed 4.2 innings while coughing up three earned runs. However, he did manage to strike out six Cleveland batters during that limited amount of time. The future Hall of Famer will have an even easier matchup tonight against the Marlins. This season, Miami is averaging the eighth-fewest runs per game (4.03).
Verlander isn’t at his Cy Young-caliber prime anymore. Still, the 42-year-old is crafty enough to fool batters half his age. That’s especially true when facing a mediocre Fish lineup. This season, Miami has whiffed 8.79 times per game, the league’s sixth-highest rate. JV has reached five K’s in six of his 11 outings so far. At home, San Francisco’s experienced hurler should find success tonight.
Rafael Devers more than 0.5 runs scored
The Giants shocked the baseball world last week, pulling off a blockbuster trade for Red Sox star Rafael Devers. Locker room dysfunction played a major role in the slugger’s move out of Boston, giving Giants GM Buster Posey a major discount. It’s safe to say that hitters of Devers’ caliber don’t grow on trees. This season, the infielder is slashing .268/.394/.495 with 16 home runs and 61 RBIs. Those numbers might go down in San Francisco’s cavernous Oracle Park, but there will still be opportunities to produce.
While Miami’s offense has been lackluster, things have been even worse on the mound. This season, the Marlins have surrendered 5.21 runs per game, third-worst in baseball. That number has jumped to a league-worst 5.77 when the team is away from home. Tonight’s starter, Cal Quantrill, has been awful for most of 2025 (5.68 ERA, 1.47 WHIP). In the heart of this Giants lineup, Devers is well-positioned to reach home plate at least once on Tuesday.
