The 2025 NBA Draft will be live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, tomorrow night. Thirty players will hear their names called in the draft’s first round, but big drama is afoot. The Suns traded Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets on Sunday. Jalen Green was the headline piece alongside the No. 10 pick going to Phoenix.
This is a crucial opportunity for the Suns to add top-end talent after trading away every pick they could. Now they have two selections in this draft and can reload around Devin Booker. Let’s take a look at the odds for Phoenix’s No. 10 selection in the 2025 NBA Draft on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
Phoenix Suns No. 10 Pick Odds
Here’s a full look at the odds for players to be selected by Phoenix with the 10th pick:
This group breaks into three categories. First, the potential droppers. These are players projected to go before No. 10: Khaman Maluach, Jeremiah Fears, Kon Knueppel and Tre Johnson. I’d be pretty surprised if any of these guys are available. Then you have the potential reaches in Will Riley and Asa Newell, players projected to be first-rounders who would be a surprising lottery pick.
The group I’m interested in are the players projected in that range. Derik Queen, Kasparas Jakučionis, Egor Demin, Thomas Sorber, Carter Bryant, Noa Essengue, Collin Murray-Boyles, Cedric Coward and Jase Richardson all seem strong candidates for this range. But that’s a big bucket to sort through. So, how do we narrow it down?
Who will the Phoenix Suns Pick?
I have two lines of thinking on the Phoenix Suns. One is that Phoenix wants to win at all costs, even with Durant gone. Bradley Beal isn’t going anywhere, they didn’t sell additional parts last year, and have none of their own picks in upcoming seasons. The motivation to tank is low. The needs are also clear: defense, defense, defense.
Look at Phoenix’s draft last year. They went with experience and defense at both picks, selecting Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro. If they continue that logic, I think Cedric Coward (+900) is the choice. He’s a three-year player with size, length and legitimate shooting chops. If the Suns believe he can be a helpful 3-and-D wing out of the gate, that’s their kind of player.
But there’s another trend in Phoenix. Suns owner Mat Ishbia loves his alma mater, Michigan State University, more than anything. His new GM? Spartan. His new head coach? Spartan. They even tried to acquire Draymond Green in a potential Durant trade at the last deadline. They had a rumored interest in Jaren Jackson Jr. Basically, if you’ve ever said “bless you” when MSU head coach Tom Izzo sneezed, Ishbia is interested in your services.
That makes Jase Richardson (+1600) an interesting dart throw. He’s got the athleticism and ball skills to make a defensive impact from day one. The potential is interesting as a ballhandler behind Booker and Beal. And, of course, he was coached by Izzo. That’s enough for me to think Richardson could end up in Phoenix in the 2025 NBA Draft.
