Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Yankees prediction, pick for Monday 6/23/25

Great American Ball Park hums tonight as the Reds look to ride their home surge against a Yankees club desperate to build momentum. Cincinnati enters 10-5 in its last 15 and 5-1 in its last six at home. The Yankees, still perched atop the AL East at 45-32, finally snapped a rough stretch by taking two of three from Baltimore. The stakes feel urgent as they send Allan Winans to make his debut in one of the most hitter-friendly parks in baseball. Cincinnati counters with Nick Lodolo, a dependable left-hander who’s been sharper at home and offers stability where New York must rely on a Triple-A call-up. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday night baseball game between the Reds and the Yankees.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Reds vs. Yankees prediction, preview

And this Reds lineup is built to take advantage. Elly De La Cruz is heating up with 17 homers, a .493 slugging percentage, and a 114 wRC+ that screams top-end power. TJ Friedl is slashing .290 with a .378 OBP, showing elite contact skills that keep rallies alive. Matt McLain is on a tear too, hitting .320 over his last 10 games and posting a 134 wRC+ during that stretch. Spencer Steer has also been a sneaky catalyst with a 115 wRC+ in June and four steals this month. Even Gavin Lux, despite his modest .262 average, owns a .340 OBP against left-handed pitching this year. This core is 6-0 to the over against AL East clubs this season, and they’ll punish a green arm tonight.

Lodolo owns a 3.71 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across 85 innings, powered by a strikeout rate of 21% and stingy walk rate of 5.1%. That’s a strong profile against a Yankees lineup that’s cooled considerably, scoring under four runs per game in their last 11 contests and hitting the under in 10 of those. Aaron Judge and company lead the majors in homers (118) and OBP (.338), but injuries to Stroman, Cole, and Yarbrough have left this rotation exposed. The Reds’ bats have heated up, scoring 5.1 runs per game over their last 10 at home and going 7-3 to the over in that span. Even without Hunter Greene and Graham Ashcraft, Cincinnati has found offense against AL East arms, cashing the over in six straight.

Yankees vs. Reds pick, best bet

Winans dominated Triple-A, boasting a ridiculous 0.90 ERA with 59 strikeouts and only 13 walks in 50 innings. But he’s never faced a big-league lineup like this in a park that can punish command lapses. The Reds rank sixth in opponent batting average at .232 and have plated four or more runs in six of their last 10 at home. The park factor and a breeze blowing out to left-center at 5-7 mph only amplify the scoring threat.

Public money leans Yankees at -125 despite their offensive funk, but this price is short for a team banged up and throwing a debut arm into a hitters’ haven. Cincinnati is 10-5 over its last 15 and 5-1 straight up in its last six at home. They have the more stable starter and a bullpen with fresher arms. Given the weather, park, and matchup, this game screams offense.

With the total at 9.5 and the conditions ripe for long balls, my money’s on the over tonight. Lodolo will give up a big fly or two to Judge and Stanton, and the Reds will jump all over Winans before this game is handed to the bullpens.

Best bet: Reds vs. Yankees o10 total runs (-115)
