Texas Rangers vs. Kansas City Royals prediction, pick for Thursday 6/19/25

The Rangers and Royals are neck-and-neck at 36-38, but tonight’s game at Globe Life Field should tell us which team is ready to take the reins. Both clubs have been inconsistent, with offense lagging behind, but they each have pitching arms that could tip the scale. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Thursday baseball game between the Royals and the Rangers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Rangers vs. Royals prediction, preview

Michael Wacha, for the Royals, is a crafty veteran, but his recent outings have shown cracks. He’s allowed 3+ earned runs in three of his last four starts, with only a 6.8 K/9 rate to show for it. His 3.38 ERA is solid, but that’s been overshadowed by a tendency to give up hard contact and inconsistent command. Sure, he can limit walks, but with a Royals offense that ranks 29th in runs scored, can he afford to give up too much? The Royals have been pitiful at the plate, especially when facing solid pitching. Maikel Garcia has been a bright spot—he’s hitting .318 with a .500 slugging percentage, and Bobby Witt Jr.’s .281 average keeps him a threat. But the bottom line: the Royals rank dead last in home runs (50), and that’s a problem when you’re facing a pitcher who can still get outs.

Enter Shawn Armstrong for Texas. Armstrong’s posted a ridiculous 2.90 ERA, and here’s the kicker: He hasn’t allowed an earned run in 11 straight appearances. But—he’s still an unproven commodity as a starter. With just one start this season, he’ll likely only go a few innings before the bullpen takes over. The Rangers’ pitching staff has been elite, ranking 2nd in the league for ERA. And with Armstrong’s strikeout rate sitting at 10.2 K/9, he’ll feast on a Royals offense that’s 2nd in MLB for strikeouts. The key? If Armstrong can avoid mistakes against a lineup that just doesn’t hit for power, Texas has a clear advantage.

Texas is far from a juggernaut at the plate. They’re struggling with a .230 team batting average, ranking 26th in the league. Adolis Garcia’s 35 RBIs lead the team, but he’s also batting just .232. Still, a few familiar faces like Josh Smith (.292 AVG) and Wyatt Langford (13 HR) could make a dent if Armstrong sets them up for success. But it’s hard to ignore that the Rangers rank fifth-worst in runs scored. The difference here? A strong bullpen and a pitching staff that’s far more reliable than the Royals’.

Royals vs. Rangers pick, best bet

Let’s be honest—this, too, is going to be a low-scoring game. Both teams are struggling to find consistent offense, and while Texas has the edge in pitching depth, the Royals’ bats just don’t scare anyone. Look for a tight one, likely falling under the eight-run total.

With both offenses faltering and solid pitching on both sides, expect a slow, grinding game—especially with Armstrong’s potential to keep the Royals off balance.

Best bet: Royals vs. Rangers u8.0 runs (+100)
