The New York Yankees are one of the MLB’s elite teams at 42-28 on the season, and now, they get even better. On Monday night, designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton returns from injury to reinforce one of the league’s hardest-hitting lineups.
Stanton hasn’t yet appeared in a game this season due to tendinitis in both elbows. After a multi-month wait, the 35-year-old finally makes his season debut on Monday night against the Los Angeles Angels.
While he’s no longer the star he once was, Stanton adds significant pop to the batting order — as if the Yankees needed any more. He slashed just .233/.298/.475 last season but tallied 27 homers in 417 at-bats.
New York already sits second in the MLB with 109 home runs, just three fewer than the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team also sits third in runs scored with 370, and with yet another power hitter in the lineup, one can expect the Bronx Bombers’ offense to only improve if Stanton is indeed fully healthy.
