Tonight at 10:10 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Francisco Giants in the second contest of a three-game series. The Giants won last night’s matchup 6-2. Both teams enter tonight’s game with an identical 41-29 record. San Francisco is 9-1 in their last 10 games, while LA is 5-5 in that span.
The Dodgers have future Hall-of-Famer Clayton Kershaw on the mound as the Giants are starting Landen Roupp. Here is my breakdown of the game and my best bet for the contest on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Giants at Dodgers Preview
Kershaw is in his 18th season and has a 1-0 record with a 4.35 ERA through his first five starts. He is coming off a seven-strikeout performance, his most of the season. But against the Giants, Kershaw has found success lately, recording five-plus strikeouts in four of his last five starts.
Although the Dodgers average an MLB-best 5.47 runs per game this season, they have been in a slump recently. LA has scored two or fewer runs four times in the previous seven games.
The Giants are one of the hottest teams in baseball. Left fielder Heliot Ramos has had an incredible season so far. He is tied for ninth in the MLB in hits with 77. Ramos has had a hit in 14 of his last 16 games.
Shohei Ohtani is third in the MLB in home runs, with 23 this season. But after batting .309 in May, he has an average of .229 in June. Ohtani is a great player, and this shouldn’t last long. He hasn’t hit a home run since June 2. Freddie Freeman is also struggling, batting .217 in June. These slumps should be temporary when you have as many elite veterans as the Dodgers have.
Giants at Dodgers pick, best bet
The Dodgers are 23-12 at home this season, the sixth-best in the MLB. Los Angeles is 4-2 against the Giants in their last six matchups at home. Five of the Dodgers’ previous six victories against the Giants have been by more than 1.5 runs.
