How A Player Is Named King of the Course
King of the Course is awarded to the player who finishes with the most birdies or better across Rounds 3 and 4 combined. All birdies or better holes are equivalent — meaning an eagle is not more valuable than a birdie, they count the same towards King of the Course.
The King of the Course does not have to be the tournament winner.
Rounds 3 and 4 are Combined
First, the number of birdies or better accrued in Rounds 1 and 2 do not factor into King of the Course scoring.
Second, King of the Course will have the most birdies or better between Rounds 3 and 4 combined. There will not be an individual winner for Saturday and one for Sunday. It’s one winner for the entire 36 holes across Rounds 3 and 4.
Playoff Scoring
In the event of a playoff, the birdies or better scored on those holes will not count toward King of the Course scoring.
Number of Birdies or Better vs. Score
A player could have the best score across Rounds 3 and 4 but not be crowned King of the Course. Here’s a sample scenario:
- Golfer A posts 34 pars and two birdies across rounds 3 and 4, finishing with the lowest score across those two rounds at -2. Golfer B posts 30 pars, 3 bogies and three birdies, finishing at an even par across the two rounds and the most birdies or better. Despite Golfer A having a score that’s two strokes better, Golfer B would be crowned King of the Course because Golfer B finished with the most birdies or better.
If There’s a Tie…
In the event of a tie, the winnings will be split equally across all bettors who backed the golfers who tied for the most birdies or better across Rounds 3 and 4. Here’s a sample scenario:
- Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy both finish with 10 birdies or better across Rounds 3 and 4 to lead all golfers across Rounds 3 and 4. All bettors who selected either Scheffler or McIlroy will receive an equal split of the prize pool.

Bettors bet $5 or more on an outright tournament winner bet for The Open Championship using their promo token, which they will receive after opting in for King of the Course.

Remember, timing is Key
Therefore, bettors can wait to cast their King of the Course pick until after the cut following Round 2. (Assuming Round 2 is not delayed past 3 a.m. Eastern Time Saturday.)
King of the Course Bets can be made until 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, July 19. (Bets made at 3:01 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, July 19 will not count toward King of the Course.)
