Josh Naylor was the hero on Monday, June 9 as he launched a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 11th inning. The Diamondbacks won the first game of the series against the Mariners after losing three straight to the Reds.
Arizona hit a major road bump with news that Corbin Burnes would require Tommy John surgery in just his first season with his new club. The team is already fighting an uphill battle in a division with the Dodgers, Giants and Padres, and it’ll have to do so without their ace.
The second game of the series vs. Seattle will take place on Tuesday, June 10. The Diamondbacks are at home and can secure the series win with another victory tonight.
Arizona is a -136 favorite on the moneyline, while Seattle is +111 on the moneyline. The game total is set at over/under 9.5 runs on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Here’s my prediction and pick for Tuesday’s Diamondbacks vs. Mariners matchup.
Diamondbacks vs. Mariners prediction
The Mariners are having an interesting season. They have a -4 run differential and are one game above .500, but they’re also just three games back from the AL West division lead.
Much of their success can be credited to Cal Raleigh, who has put together an MVP-caliber season up to this point. The catcher is batting .266 with a MLB-leading 26 home runs. If it wasn’t for Aaron Judge, Raleigh would be getting much more serious consideration for the AL MVP award.
Brandon Pfaadt will be tasked with slowing down Raleigh, which is a major challenge this season. Pfaadt has a 5.51 ERA and 1.7 home runs per nine through 65.1 innings. He’s also striking out seven batters per nine, his lowest mark in his three major league seasons.
On the other side, the Mariners will be starting rookie Logan Evans. He holds a 2.83 ERA through six starts and 35 innings. He’s allowed more than two earned runs in two of his six outings, with three starts finishing with one or fewer earned runs.
Although the stats favor Evans, there’s still some uncertainty given his limited track record and rookie status. The Diamondbacks can take advantage of him just like White Sox did on May 21.
Diamondbacks vs. Mariners pick, best bet
Diamondbacks vs. Mariners is one of three games scheduled after 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday night. While there aren’t any division implications like the other two late matchups, this is still a fairly even game.
Seattle is just three games behind Houston for first place in the AL West, while Arizona is 7.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West. The season is far from over, but these even matchups are critical for both squads as they seek playoff berths in 2025.
Raleigh is the highlight for tonight’s game as his home run prop is set at +255 on DraftKings Sportsbook. It’s solid odds considering he’s the top home run hitter in MLB.
