After Thursday’s first round of the RBC Canadian Open, the field was looking up at two golfers atop the leaderboard: Thorbjorn Olesen ($8,700; 87 FPTS) and Cristobal Del Solar ($6,200; 91 FPTS).
Heading into the weekend, Cameron Champ, who was a late addition for Sahith Theegala and not in the player pool for DraftKings contests, took the top spot.
On Sunday, it was all about Ryan Fox ($7,700; 134 FPTS) and Sam Burns ($9,300; 130.5 FPTS).
Fox was consistent the entire tournament, shooting a 66, 66 and 64 in the first three rounds. On Sunday, he once again went -4 (66) after one birdie on the front nine and three birdies on the back nine, with one on the final hole to force extra golf.
Burns went 66, 66 and 68 in the first three rounds. On Sunday, he went low, real low, with a -8 (62). The 62 wasn’t the low of the tournament, though, as both Olesen and Del Solar went -9 (61) on Thursday. Back to Burns, he birdied the first two holes on Sunday. He racked up a bogey three holes later but got it right back with a birdie on the next hole. The back nine couldn’t have started any better with five straight birdies. Burns then birdied hole 18.
On the first playoff hole, Fox and Burns went par. They replicated the feat for the next two holes. Finally, on the fourth playoff hole, Fox did this:
Fox went on to birdie the hole while Burns finished with par, leading to the second career PGA Tour victory for Fox.
In the $700K Summer Sand Trap tournament, Fox was rostered on 18.68% of teams, the fifth-most. Burns was rostered on 19.83%, the fourth-most.
Olesen finished T36. After Thursday’s 61, he finished the tournament going 70, 71 and 69.
Del Solar also finished T36. After Thursday’s 61, he went 71, 67 and 72.
Champ finished T9 at -14. He was eight strokes behind Fox and Burns. After Thursday’s 62, he went 66, 71 and 67.
The most rostered golfer was Rory McIlroy ($11,900; 22.5 FPTS) at 33.25%. He did not make the cut.
