Sunday’s another full day of hardball from across the MLB, and there are a few games in the later afternoon setting us up for Red Sox and Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball. Looking at the three games that start around 4:00 p.m. ET and the Sunday Night Baseball matchup, let’s find some fun starting pitcher props to attack. Tyler Anderson to Record a win (+210)
Let’s start my starting pitcher prop bets with a swing for the fences. Even though the Mariners are sending George Kirby to the mound and are still two games ahead of the Angels in the AL West standings, I’m ready to back not only the Angels to finish the sweep, but Tyler Anderson to pick up the win.
Anderson only has two wins in his 12 starts this season but has been solid with a 3.86 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. The 35-year-old lefty has been even better at home, with a 2.34 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in his 34 2/3 innings at Angel Stadium.
In his last home start, he gave up two runs (one earned) in six strong innings against the Yankees. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his last seven starts, and he pitched well on the road against the Mariners earlier this season, giving up two earned runs over six innings.
On the opposite side of the matchup, Kirby hasn’t been quite at full speed after missing the start of the season with a shoulder issue. He has gone 0-3 in three starts with an 8.56 ERA, 5.63 FIP and 1.83 WHIP, and he left his last start after taking a comebacker off his hand and jaw. He didn’t miss a start, but could be at less than 100%. Kirby can dominate when at his best, but he hasn’t been yet this year. He coud spoil this longshot prop, but I think the Angels will be able to get enough runs to back up Anderson.
The Angels have won four of their last five games while the Mariners have lost five in a row. While at first glance, Kirby gives the Mariners the advantage on Sunday afternoon, I think Anderson has pitched better than many realize, making him worth a shot as a longshot play.
Landen Roupp over 15.5 Outs Recorded (-125)
Roupp and the Giants face the struggling Braves on Sunday afternoon after walking off winners in each of the first two games of the series. Roupp doesn’t have to get the win to deliver the win in this pick in my starting pitcher props for Sunday, all he has to do is pitch at least 5 1/3 innings.
Roupp has gone over this total in three of his last four outings, including his last start when he went 6 1/3 innings against the Padres. He allowed just four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in one of his best outings of the year. That start was at home, and he has gone over this line in all but one of his four starts at pitcher-friendly Oracle Park this season.
He’s averaging 5.2 innings per start so far this season, but since he’s trending in the right direction and facing a favorable matchup at home against the Braves, I think he’ll get at least 16 outs on Sunday afternoon.
Carlos Rodon over 7.5 Strikeouts Thrown (+100)
Rodon faces the Red Sox in the Sunday Night Baseball matchup that closes out the Sunday slate. The 32-year-old lefty is 8-3 in his 13 starts this season, posting a 2.49 ERA, 2.93 FIP and 11.0 K/9.
His 31.6% strikeout rate is the third-highest he has posted in his career, and his highest since he joined the Yankees before 2023. He has at least eight strikeouts in three straight starts, four of his last five, and eight of his last 11. At home, Rodon has allowed just a .154 batting average and held opponents to only 11 runs in 41 2/3 innings.
Rodon gets a good matchup against the Red Sox, who have the fourth-highest K% in the majors this season and the fourth-highest over the last two weeks as well. In their 12 games over the last two weeks, they have racked up 10.3 strikeouts per game, so facing a pitcher with a high strikeout rate like Rodon will likely result in more than one strikeout per inning, allowing him to get to at least eight Ks for his fourth start in a row.
Rodon has gone 4-4 with an ERA of 3.83 and 63 strikeouts in his nine previous career appearances against Boston and has 28 strikeouts in four starts against the Red Sox since joining the Yankees. He’ll need to do slightly above that average to hit in this prop, but since his K% is up this season and the Red Sox’ K% is up lately, I think he’ll get at least eight on Sunday night.
