All 30 MLB teams will be facing off across today’s MLB slate. The action will begin at 12:10 p.m. ET when the Tampa Bay Rays host the Miami Marlins. Games will continue over the rest of the afternoon, building out to the Sunday night matchup between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for today’s action, 6/8/25. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on the MLB slate.
Pete Alonso More Than 2.5 Hits, Runs & RBIs
After a frustrating summer in which Pete Alonso and the Mets did not see his contractual outlook the same, the four-time All-Star is proving his worth to this New York team. Alonso has been absolutely crushing the ball this season. He is slashing .296/.394/.572 on the season with a career-high .966 OPS.
Over his past 14 games, he has tallied 40 total bases, six home runs and 19 RBIs. He is producing an impressive 1.130 OPS across this stretch and has tallied a hit in 13 of these 14 games. He enters today’s game on a five-game hitting streak and has tallied more than 2.5 combined hits, runs and RBIs in four of his past five games played.
Chase Dollander is on the mound for the Rockies today and enters with a 6.26 ERA and -0.4 WAR so far this season. He has allowed 29 earned runs over 41.2 innings pitched and has conceded at least one earned run in every start this season. Count on Alonso to remain hot against this struggling Rockies team and tally more than 2.5 combined hits, runs and RBIs again today.
Francisco Lindor More Than 0.5 Home Runs
Francisco Lindor also enters with a chance to tee off on Dollander and is playing some really good baseball this season. Last year’s NL MVP runner-up is coming off back-to-back 30+ home run seasons and is posting a .498 slugging percentage and .858 OPS on the year. Lindor has 14 home runs already this season, and this game will be played in one of the most home run-friendly parks.
Dollander has conceded 10 home runs in 41.2 innings pitched this season. He has especially struggled at Coors Field, conceding six of these home runs in just 17.1 innings pitched. Lindor is coming off a three-hit night in last night’s matchup and has tallied a hit in seven of his past eight. While it has been four games since he produced a home run, Lindor has four home runs over his past eight games. With a hitter’s ballpark and a vulnerable pitcher, I like his chances of putting one over the fence again today.
Spencer Strider More Than 4.5 Hits Against
It has been a rocky past few seasons for Spencer Strider. He burst onto the MLB scene looking like one of the brightest young pitchers, but he has suffered some injuries and has not performed up to his high standards so far this season. In 2024, Strider went 20-5 with a 3.96 ERA and led the MLB with 281 strikeouts. But across his first four starts this year, Strider has made it through just 19.0 innings and allowed 18 hits, 12 earned runs and is posting a 5.68 ERA.
The 26-year-old has made just six starts over the past two seasons because of elbow surgery and has not returned to the best version of himself yet. He will look to find this against a Giants lineup that enters on a four-game winning streak. Strider has allowed more than 4.5 hits in three of his four starts. He lasted just 4.2 innings against the Phillies in the lone game he recorded less than this number, and he also walked four in that matchup. San Francisco’s offense has shown more life of late, and I like this to continue with Strider allowing more than 4.5 hits again today.
Tyler Soderstrom More Than 1.5 Total Bases
Tomoyuki Sugano will be getting the start for the Orioles today as they suit up for the rubber match of the series with the Athletics. Sugano has already allowed 12 home runs across his first 12 starts and 63 total hits across his first 71.0 innings pitched. Runs have been easy to come by for the games out in Sacramento in general. With a hitter-friendly ballpark with minor league dimensions, warm weather and poor pitching, there have been plenty of crooked numbers.
Tyler Soderstrom has been one of the biggest contributors for the Athletics this season. The 23-year-old has 14 home runs already this season and is slashing .256/.341/.480 on the year, which all mark career-highs. He has tallied seven RBIs over the past three games with nine total bases across this time. Soderstrom has tallied 22 total bases across his past nine games. While a home run is surely on the table as a possibility, I am backing Soderstrom to tally more than 1.5 total bases tonight.
Tyler Anderson Less Than 17.5 Outs
Tyler Anderson will be making his 13th start of the season tonight as the Angels face the Mariners. He is 2-2 on the season with a 3.86 ERA and has pitched just 65.1 total innings this year. For him to record more than 17.5 outs, he would need to pitch through the sixth inning. Anderson has only reached this in five of his 12 starts this year. He has recorded fewer than 17.5 outs in four of his past five starts.
The two-time All-Star will face off against the Seattle Mariners today, who rank sixth in the major league in home runs. They have an intimidating lineup, and Anderson has conceded 22 hits, three home runs and 14 RBIs across the 95 collective at-bats he has faced this roster. Anderson is still a solid pitcher, but his pitch count has gotten the better of him in recent starts. He has thrown 93+ pitches in seven straight starts, and this has been the root of him not going deep in games. Expect this to be a problem against a Mariners offense that has been producing. Ultimately, expect him to be held to less than 17.5 outs tonight and be chased from the game before the end of the seventh inning for the eighth time this season.
Carlos Rodon Less Than 7.5 Strikeouts
It has been an entertaining series between the Yankees and Red Sox, who will look to settle things today after splitting the opening two games. Carlos Rodon will be getting the start for New York, who looks to finally be pitching to his full potential. It has been a rocky career for the No. 3 pick, with injuries proving to be an issue early on.
Looking at this season, he is 8-3 on the season with a 2.49 ERA and he has struck out 98 batters across 79.2 innings pitched. However, he only managed a 4.86 ERA against the Red Sox last year and failed to tally more than 7.5 strikeouts in all three starts. Even with his success, he has been held to less than 7.5 strikeouts in five of his starts this year. This is a high number to reach, and the Red Sox are seeing the ball well with 16 total runs over the past two games. Expect Rodon to have a solid game, but the 7.5 strikeout margin is too high for my liking. Expect him to be held to less than this in the high-intensity rivalry battle.
