In the words of Maximus Decimus Meridius, are you not entertained? The Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers racked up five goals in the first period of Game 2 in the Stanley Cup Final. Edmonton leads 3-2 after the first. Here’s all five goals, first from Sam Bennett.
It didn’t take long for Edmonton to respond, as Evander Kane sniped one off the post to even things up.
Then, Evan Bouchard gave Edmonton their first lead, collecting his own blocked shot and firing it past a confused Sergei Bobrovsky.
It was another lead not made to last, as the Florida Panthers put together a beautiful clinic of puck movement to get Seth Jones an open goal and a 2-2 game.
But, of course, Connor McDavid had something to say about this one. McJesus showed why he’s the best in the world by coasting through the Panthers’ defensive zone to find Leon Draisaitl on the power play.
Two ties and three lead changes in the first period. Not bad at all. It’s the most goals scored in the opening period of a Stanley Cup Finals game since 2016, when the Penguins and Sharks combined for five goals. If you’re not watching this one already, tune in for some elite puck action.
