San Francisco Giants vs. Atlanta Braves prediction, pick for Friday 6/6/25

The Braves are reeling, stumbling into San Francisco after a brutal collapse and a four-game losing streak. Meanwhile, the Giants have steadied the ship, winning back-to-back games and holding firm at home. The stage is set for a tense pitchers’ duel between Spencer Schwellenbach, fresh off a dominant performance, and the promising Hayden Birdsong, whose form has been nothing short of elite at Oracle Park. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Friday night baseball game between the Giants and the Braves.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Giants vs. Braves prediction, preview

The Atlanta Braves are caught in a downward spiral, losers of four straight and nine of their last 11. Tonight, they face a San Francisco Giants team that, while no stranger to offensive struggles, has found a reliable rhythm on the mound. Spencer Schwellenbach (4-4, 3.13 ERA) takes the ball for the Braves, while the Giants counter with Hayden Birdsong (3-1, 2.37 ERA), whose calm demeanor and electric stuff have brought a spark to San Francisco’s rotation.

Both pitchers are promising, but Schwellenbach has shown a steady hand that Birdsong is still developing. Schwellenbach’s exceptional command—posting a 71:12 K:BB ratio—has made him the standout for Atlanta. His 1.03 WHIP and 1.5 BB/9 rate are elite, particularly for a rookie. Over his last six starts, Schwellenbach has compiled a 2.61 xFIP and is allowing just 0.95 HR/9. He’ll need that sharp control in Oracle Park, a venue that suppresses power numbers and often frustrates hitters with its thick marine air.

Birdsong, meanwhile, is carving out a name for himself. His 2.37 ERA is impressive, but it’s his K/9 rate (9.5) and dominance at home (1.86 ERA) that make him an intriguing option. Though his walk rate (2.8 BB/9) isn’t ideal, he’s done a phenomenal job limiting hard contact. Despite his lack of experience, Birdsong has shown poise well beyond his years. In his last two starts, he allowed just one earned run across 10.1 innings, proving he can handle pressure moments—especially at home.

But what really tips this matchup in the Giants’ favor isn’t just the pitchers. It’s the bullpen. San Francisco’s relief corps has been nothing short of elite, ranking first in MLB with a 2.76 ERA. Ryan Walker (1.95 ERA), Randy Rodriguez (0.64 ERA), and Camilo Doval (2.75 ERA) have been nearly untouchable. In contrast, Atlanta’s bullpen is in disarray. Raisel Iglesias, who has a 6.75 ERA and four blown saves, is struggling, and after the Braves’ catastrophic meltdown yesterday, confidence is at an all-time low. The bullpen is a clear advantage for San Francisco.

Braves vs. Giants pick, best bet

The Braves’ offense is sputtering, managing just 3.5 runs per game over their last six. They’ve been outscored 43-33 during this stretch, even though they’re ranked 8th in team batting average. Simply put, they’ve lacked the punch to finish games. Austin Riley, while still a potent bat, has a wRC+ of just 112 over the past two weeks, and he’s slashing a mediocre .240/.300/.370 during that time. His power has been muted, with only one home run in the last 10 games. Marcell Ozuna has been even colder, with a .175/.250/.325 slash line during this stretch and an alarming 33% K rate. On the other hand, the Giants, despite their own offensive woes, have stabilized at home, winning eight of their last 10 games at Oracle Park. Their pitching has been steady, and with a bullpen as strong as theirs, they’ve found ways to grind out victories.

San Francisco’s offense has been similarly quiet but has a few bright spots. Wilmer Flores continues to be the heart of their lineup, leading the team in RBIs with 47. He’s also posted a .338 wOBA and a 123 wRC+ over his last 15 games. Heliot Ramos, though streaky, has shown flashes of brilliance, batting .289 with a .489 SLG on the season. His power against right-handed pitchers like Schwellenbach, who’s been vulnerable to right-handed bats (.462 SLG allowed), is something to watch. Ramos is batting .321 against pitchers who throw 95+ mph fastballs, which makes tonight’s matchup intriguing.

I’m leaning heavily on the Giants to take this one. Schwellenbach’s recent form is impressive, but the Braves’ offense, especially on the road, doesn’t provide the support he needs to escape with a win. Add in the Giants’ home advantage, a bullpen that can lock it down late, and Birdsong’s steady hand, and this game feels like it’s San Francisco’s to lose.

Best bet: Giants (+115) vs. Braves

Ramos and Birdsong should be enough to combat Schwelly—tail it with me in the DKN Betting Group here!
