After Thursday’s first round of the RBC Canadian Open, the field was looking up at two golfers atop the leaderboard: Thorbjorn Olesen ($8,700; 73.5 FPTS) and Cristobal Del Solar ($6,200; 66.5 FPTS).
There is now a new leader heading into the weekend, and his name is Cameron Champ, who was a late addition for Sahith Theegala. He is not in the player pool for DraftKings contests.
Champ was one stroke back of the lead after Thursday’s round. On Friday, he had an unblemished round with two birdies on both the front and back nines. He finished the day -4 (66) and leads the field by two strokes.
DraftKings Sportsbook has Champ as the favorite to win it all at +450 and -275 to finish Top 10.
Olesen went -9 (61) on Thursday. Friday was a much different story. After notching two birdies and a bogey on the front nine, Olesen double-bogeyed the first hole of the back nine. He bounced back with two straight birdies before racking up another bogey. He then finished up the round with a birdie and a bogey to finish E (70). Olesen is T3 at -9 for the tournament heading into the weekend, three strokes off the lead.
Del Solar went -9 (61) on Thursday, and like Olesen, had a brutal Friday. On the second hole of the round, he double-bogeyed. He responded well with three birdies in the next four holes, but then notched another double-bogey. He did close out the front nine with an eagle then had a birdie on the first hole of the back nine. Unfortunately, he had a three-bogey streak on Holes 6, 7 and 8 to finish the day +1 (71). Del Solar is now T7 at -8, four strokes off the lead.
In the $700K Summer Sand Trap tournament, Olesen is rostered on 6.66% of teams. Del Solar is on only 0.4%.
DraftKings Sportsbook had Olesen as the favorite to win it all at +450 and -250 to finish Top 10 after Thursday. He is now +900 to win it all and -165 to finish Top 10. Del Solar was +3000 to win it all and +210 to finish Top 10 after Thursday. He is now +8000 to win it all and +360 to finish Top 10.
The most rostered golfer is Rory McIlroy ($11,900; 22.5 FPTS) at 33.25%
He finished Thursday +1 (71). Friday was much worse. On the front nine, he had a double-bogey and a bogey. On the first two holes of the back nine, he went bogey then double-bogey. He then racked up two more bogeys with a birdie and notched another bogey on Hole 18. McIlroy finished +8 (78) for the day and missed the cut by 12 strokes.
The cutline was -3.
Here are the golfers rostered on at least 10% of teams who missed the cut:
Eric Cole ($8,100; 20 FPTS) is rostered on 9.48% of teams. Yeah, that’s not 10%, but it’s close and he’s at 10% in two of the other large tournaments. Cole went -1 (69) on Thursday. On Friday, he finished +5 (75). Cole had four bogeys on the front nine with two more on the back nine with a birdie on the final hole.
Sungjae Im ($9,400; 29 FPTS) is rostered on 10.56% of teams. Im finished Thursday +2 (72). Data Golf had Im at 18.4% of making the cut. Im was better on Friday, but could only muster a -2 (68), missing the cut by three strokes. He bogeyed the third hole of the day but bounced back with three birdies on the front nine. Unfortunately, he racked up a double-bogey on the second hole of the back nine. He closed out the round with two birdies, one on the final hole.
Alex Noren ($8,500; 32 FPTS) is rostered on 9.97% of teams. On Thursday, he finished -3 (67). Friday’s round began ominously with a bogey on the first hole. He got the stroke back with a birdie two holes later, but he racked up two more bogeys to close out the front nine. On the back nine, he had two birdies and a bogey, finishing the day +1 (71). Noren missed the cut by one stroke.
Matti Schmid ($7,500; 28 FPTS) is rostered on 13.19% of teams. He went E (70) on Thursday. Data Golf gave him a 38.9% chance of making the cut. On Friday, he had two birdies on the front nine and things looked promising. After draining a birdie on the first hole of the back nine, it looked like there was a good chance of moving on to the weekend. Unfortunately, he double-bogeyed the next hole and was only able to muster another birdie the rest of the way. He missed the cut by one stroke.
Eric Van Rooyen ($7,300; 35 FPTS) is rostered on 12.8% of teams. Van Rooyen finished Thursday -3 (67). On Friday, he racked up two birdies and a bogey. On the back nine, though, he notched three bogeys and a birdie to finish +1 (71). He missed the cut by one stroke.
