On Friday before their series against the Mets, the Rockies placed starting shortstop Ezequiel Tovar on the 10-day injured list. Tovar suffered the injury earlier this week in a game against the Marlins on Monday and will land on the IL for the second time this season.
Tovar is hitting .258 with three homers and two stolen bases while being limited to 32 games. He does have a .362 xwOBA, so he’s still hitting the ball well, but he hasn’t been able to really find his groove this season. He has dealt with quad issues and landed on the IL earlier this season with a left hip contusion.
Now he’ll be out for at least another week with this new issue. While he’s out, Orlando Arcia will likely get more time in the Rockies’ lineup, which makes him fantasy relevant while the Rockies are at home at Coors Field.
As also noted in the tweet above, the Rockies called up Ryan Ritter. Ritter hit .305 in his 52 games in Triple-A for the Albuquerque Isotopes. He has 16 homers in just 52 games with a .448 wOBA.
Ritter will be a fun rookie to watch after his fast start at Triple-A. He started the season at No. 11 on the Rockies’ prospect list, per MLB Pipeline, and his power gives him a lot of upside along with his impressive defense. Ritter isn’t in the player pool for Friday night’s MLB contests, but he could be a great value play when he’s in the mix this coming weekend.
