San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres prediction, pick for Thursday 6/05/25

We’re in for another showdown at Oracle Park. The Padres may lead the series, but the Giants are poised to fight back—especially with Robbie Ray ready to deliver on the mound. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Thursday night baseball game between the Giants and the Padres.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Giants vs. Padres prediction, preview

The Giants are at home, and with Robbie Ray on the mound, I’m confident in their chances today. Ray’s been near unhittable at Oracle Park with a 1.89 ERA in six home starts this season. His K/9 rate sits at 10.0, and with a 2.43 ERA, he’s been downright dominant. He’s been solid in every start, limiting hard contact with a .205 batting average against and a 1.11 WHIP. In his last six starts, he’s allowed one earned run or fewer five times. Simply put, this is the ace the Giants need in this crucial divisional game.

Now, on the flip side, I have concerns about Dylan Cease. Sure, he has strikeout potential, with 78 K’s over 63.2 innings. But that 4.66 ERA? It’s reflective of deeper issues—like a 1.29 WHIP and 3.0 BB/9 rate that put him in plenty of trouble. Plus, his struggles on the road this season (5.68 ERA) are hard to ignore. And with a Giants bullpen that boasts the best ERA in baseball (2.44), I don’t see Cease getting the run support he needs today.

Let’s talk hitters. Manny Machado is doing his thing with a .314 average and seven homers, but he’s been far less effective against lefties. Machado’s OPS against left-handed pitchers sits at just .750, down from .830 last season. He’s not in his usual form, and the Padres’ offense isn’t exactly lighting up the scoreboard, ranking 17th in runs per game. Heliot Ramos, on the other hand, has been a steady force for the Giants, hitting .293 with 11 home runs. With Ray’s control and the park’s favorable conditions for pitchers, I see Ramos and the Giants exploiting the Padres’ pitching vulnerabilities.

Padres vs. Giants pick, best bet

This series has been close—three of the first four games have been decided by a single run. But with Ray in charge and the Giants’ bullpen boasting the best ERA in baseball (2.44), I like San Francisco to take this one. The Padres have been 9-1 in division matchups, but their 15-15 road record and Cease’s volatility make them hard to trust here.

Looking at the total: it’s set at 7.0, which I find too low—but for good reason. Both teams have been underperforming offensively, with the Padres’ struggles against lefties and the Giants’ inability to generate consistent run support. The under has been hitting hard for both teams in recent games—11 of San Francisco’s last 12 and five of the Padres’ last six games.

Robbie Ray’s been elite, and the Padres just haven’t convinced me on the road. Even with San Diego’s strong bullpen, they won’t have enough to outlast Ray and a Giants offense that can capitalize on Cease’s mistakes. Let’s take Giants Moneyline today.

Best bet: Giants (-115) vs. Padres
