After a wild day at TPC Toronto, Thorbjorn Olesen and Cristobal Del Solar are tied for the lead a nine-under par, while Rpry McIlroy is 10 strokes off the pace at one-over. It looked like certain golfers were playing a completely different course than others. Let’s see what Round 2 brings.
Below are my favorite bets for Friday’s second round on DraftKings Sportsbook
Victor Perez over Thomas Detry +115
Both Perez and Detry are four-under-par and sit T18 after Round 1, but they got there in different ways. Both guys putted well, with Perez gaining 2.89 strokes and Detry gaining 3.22. However, Detry was one of the worst golfers in the field on approach during Thursday’s first round, as he lost a whopping 3.25 strokes with his irons. That number ranks him seventh-worst in the field, and the only guys worse than him currently are T119 or worse on the leaderboard.
Perez was not great on approach either, losing .38 strokes, but what he did on Thursday is much more sustainable than what Detry did. The fact that we can get Perez at +115 in this spot is strong, because if Detry’s putting regresses even a little bit, he will not come close to shooting four-under on Friday.
Shane Lowry end of round Top-5 +180
Lowry has had an incredible season thus far and feels right on the cusp of winning. He opened the RBC with a blistering five-under 65, where he gained 3.7 strokes on approach, ranking him seventh in the field. Not only did he gain with his irons, but the Irishman gained just under a half stroke off-the-tee and 1.07 on the greens.
He’s got his full repertoire working right now and sits in fifth place as we head to Round 2. I fully expect him to keep his foot on the gas on Friday, and the golfers surrounding him on the leaderboard currently are quite volatile. Lowry is a strong bet to stay in the top-five as we head to the weekend, and we can get close to 2/1 odds on it here.
