Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers prediction, pick for Wednesday 6/04/25

The Rays face the Rangers tonight, and it’s an intriguing matchup between two teams whose recent form tells very different stories. The Rays (31-29) have been surging at home, winning 10 of their last 13, while the Rangers (29-32) have been faltering, struggling to find consistency both offensively and defensively. On the mound, Shane Baz (4-3, 4.92 ERA) will look to guide the Rays to another win, while the Rangers send Kumar Rocker (1-3, 8.10 ERA) out to battle. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Wednesday night baseball game between the Rays and the Rangers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Rays vs. Rangers prediction, preview

The Rays’ offense has been heating up. Junior Caminero, with 13 homers and 37 RBIs, is their power source. Jonathan Aranda has been on fire, batting .324 with a .408 OBP. Caminero ranks in the 85th percentile for power, while his 38 RBIs show his ability to drive in runs. Aranda boasts elite plate discipline with a walk rate in the 90th percentile. Tampa’s pitching, led by Baz, has been solid, with a 3.48 ERA. Baz has shown brilliance at home, where his ERA is lower than on the road. With Baz and the bullpen, the Rays hold the advantage over the Rangers’ struggling offense.

The Rangers’ offense ranks 27th in runs scored. Adolis Garcia leads with 27 RBIs but is hitting just .208. Garcia has a solid 11.6% walk rate, but his .269 wOBA against right-handers makes him vulnerable against Baz. Rocker’s return from the IL adds to the Rangers’ struggles. With an 8.10 ERA, 1.75 WHIP, and 12.1 hits per nine innings, Rocker is a ticking time bomb. Against a Rays offense capable of exploding, Texas doesn’t stand much of a chance.

Shane Baz has been solid, especially at home, with a 3.65 ERA compared to his 5.76 ERA on the road. Over his last three starts, he’s pitched at least five innings each time, despite allowing a home run in every outing. His 8.2 K/9 shows strikeout potential, but his 22 walks in 60.1 innings remain a concern. Kumar Rocker, however, is in freefall with an 8.10 ERA and 1.75 WHIP. His 12.1 hits per nine innings and weak 1.92 K/BB ratio scream trouble. With a 6.63 ERA in his last three starts, Rocker has struggled to limit damage. Baz holds the edge with better stuff and reliability.

Rangers vs. Rays pick, best bet

As for the total, the under has hit more often for both teams, but the over seems like the smarter play tonight. Rocker’s struggles, coupled with Baz’s occasional inconsistency, create a scenario ripe for offensive production. Rocker’s HR/9 of 2.25 shows that he’s prone to giving up home runs, and Baz’s 11.4% barrel rate allowed suggests he can be hit hard when he misses his spots. Baz has allowed 12 home runs this season, and Rocker’s return from injury is hardly a confident boost for the Rangers’ pitching staff.

In terms of betting trends, the Rays have covered the run line in each of their last six games, while the Rangers have failed to cover the run line in each of their last four road games. Furthermore, Tampa Bay’s recent form—winning by multiple runs in seven of their last 10—suggests they will not only win but do so comfortably.

With the Rays’ strong pitching at home, an offense that’s capable of putting up big numbers, and the Rangers’ inconsistent play on the road, Tampa Bay is primed to cover the spread tonight.

Best bet: Rays -1.5 (+160) vs. Rangers
