The PGA TOUR season continues this week with the RBC Canadian Open at the North Course (par 70, 7,389 yards, bentgrass/POA mix greens) of TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Caledon, Ontario. The first round begins Thursday morning and below, I break down a Sungjae Im prop bet to consider for the first round, via DraftKings Sportsbook.
Sungjae Im Over 68.5 Round 1 Score (-120)
This week’s host is the North Course of TPC Toronto and this venue is brand new to the PGA TOUR. The North Course is a long par 70 that features thick rough and Im shooting 68 or lower in his first competitive round at this track is unlikely.
Im has made 12-of-16 cuts with seven top-25 finishes this season, but when you take a deeper dive, you will see some concerning issues with his game. Im has lost strokes on approach in 13 of his 16 starts this season and he ranks 173rd of 177 qualifying players in SG APP this season, which is alarming to say the least. Gaining strokes on approach is the most important attribute in golf and it is no surprise that Im has rarely contended this season with his ball striking in such poor form.
Im has lost strokes on approach at a whopping nine events in a row and he hasn’t started tournaments off well this season in any way. Im is averaging a 71.0 first round score, which ranks 125th this season. In fact, the 27-year-old has shot 69 or higher in the first round of 12 of his 16 starts.
