Seattle Mariners vs. Baltimore Orioles prediction, pick for Wednesday 6/04/25

The Mariners are staring down a pivotal game tonight against the Orioles, and after losing the first contest, Seattle is ready to bounce back. This evening’s matchup between Emerson Hancock (2-2, 5.64 ERA) and Cade Povich (1-4, 5.29 ERA) at T-Mobile Park is bound to have fireworks. With both teams struggling to establish dominance on the mound, this one could easily turn into a high-scoring affair. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Wednesday night baseball game between the Royals and the Cardinals.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Mariners vs. Orioles prediction, preview

Hancock’s struggles at home are well-documented—his 9.53 ERA in four home starts this season shows just how vulnerable he is in Seattle. He’s surrendered five homers in his last two outings, and his xERA sits at an unsightly 5.34. The Mariners’ pitching staff has allowed the 11th-most runs in the league this season (4.34 R/9), and Hancock’s 1.57 WHIP at home only adds fuel to that fire. Despite Hancock’s talent, his inconsistency means we can expect the Orioles’ bats to get their chances tonight. Baltimore’s Ryan O’Hearn has been a revelation, batting a scorching .335 with a .951 OPS. He’s in the 92nd percentile for exit velocity, and Hancock’s inability to generate swings and misses (22.4% chase rate) will let O’Hearn take advantage of any hanging pitches. He and Gunnar Henderson (.262, 7 HR, 18 RBI) provide the bulk of the offense, and with Hancock’s vulnerability to hard contact, the Orioles should capitalize on the Mariners’ shaky pitching.

Then, there’s Cade Povich on the other side—he’s been prone to blowups this year, allowing 33 runs over 51 innings. His ERA is a full point higher on the road (5.93), and opponents have consistently tagged him for hard contact. His hard-hit rate sits in the fifth percentile in the league, and hitters are barreling his stuff at an alarming 8% rate. The Mariners’ offensive numbers have been steadily improving, with Cal Raleigh continuing to crush it with 23 home runs and a .259 average, while J.P. Crawford has been an on-base machine (.394 OBP). The Mariners’ slugging percentage of .396 should exploit Povich’s pitching inefficiencies, particularly his struggles against left-handed hitters, as Seattle ranks seventh in wRC+ vs. lefties.

Orioles vs. Mariners pick, best bet

Recent form also backs up this play. Seattle’s offense has averaged 4.53 runs per game this season, and while their batting average ranks 23rd in the league, they’ve consistently found ways to score, especially against pitchers with control issues like Povich. The Orioles, though limited in offensive firepower, have shown signs of life, averaging 3.83 runs per game with O’Hearn leading the charge.

From a betting standpoint, the under has been the trend for the Orioles in most of their recent night games, but the Mariners’ tendency to hit the over in their recent home games, paired with the inconsistent pitching of both starters, signals a higher-scoring outcome tonight. Despite the Orioles’ struggles at the plate, the combination of weak starting pitching and shaky bullpens on both sides leaves the over 8.5 runs as the best value as a slight underdog.

Best bet: Mariners vs. Orioles o8.5 total runs (-105)
