2025 FIFA Club World Cup: Group B prediction, pick

All eight groups in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup consist of four teams. Group B will include these four teams: Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético Madrid, Botafogo, and the Seattle Sounders. Those four will fight for the top two spots in the group to advance to the tournament’s knockout stages. Here are their odds on the DraftKings Sportsbook to advance:

Let’s take a look at the years all four clubs have had, then predict who will advance.

Paris Saint-Germain

PSG is on top of the world. After years of frustration and disappointment, the club won their first-ever Champions League title with a 5-0 rout of Inter Milan over the weekend.

Although the team is the top club in France, having won 11 of the past 13 Ligue One titles, questions remained. Many wondered if a side that plays in a free-flowing league like the French top flight could win the highest club honor in Europe. That has been put to bed. Now, PSG are looking to put more hardware in the trophy case.

Their talent and ability to win in a tournament are without question. The question becomes, will the two-week turnaround from the end of the UCL leave their legs tired compared to others? Or will they be sharpened and ready to go?

Atlético Madrid

It’s been a tough year for Atlético. Often the third wheel in La Liga behind Barcelona and rival Real Madrid, they were starkly reminded of their standing this year.

Los Colchoneros finished third in the La Liga table yet again. To the surprise of nobody, Barca and Real finished 1-2. Atlético was eliminated in the Champions League knockout stage by Real via penalty kicks. They then lost the Copa del Rey in aggravating fashion, losing the second leg of the semifinals at home to Barca 1-0 after drawing the road leg. It was a frustrating reminder of the gulf between the top two in Spain and the rest of the field.

Atléti has a chance at redemption with this tournament. They have fresh legs and a hunger to prove themselves. Having an early test against PSG could be a boon for this squad as a tone-setter.

Botafogo RJ

I don’t expect many to know top Brazilian clubs off the top of their head. Some may know Flamengo or Palmeiras by name, or Santos FC due to Neymar. Botafogo owns one of the most interesting journeys in the recent memory of Brazilian football.

La Botinha was relegated to the second division after a last-place finish in the 2020 season. They won Serie B in 2021 to mark a return for the 2022 season. It took only three seasons in the top flight to secure a league trophy this past season. That’s an admirable turnaround no matter what level of competition you play at.

Though unlikely to advance in this group, Botafogo could put up a fight worth noticing against two of the top clubs in the world.

Seattle Sounders

Being one of the most consistent clubs in Major League Soccer is an achievement. Unfortunately, that doesn’t get you very far on the world stage.

This year, Seattle is on track to make the playoffs in the MLS and is looking to bring home its first trophy since 2019. Though it did get knocked out early in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, it won the tournament in 2022. One thing that United States clubs have in spades is tournament experience.

That may not get them far in this tournament. In a three-match schedule, they’ll have to take points from one of PSG or Atlético Madrid, plus a win over Botafogo, to advance. It’s a tall task.

Prediction and Pick

This group may have the most immense gulf between the favorites to advance and the rest. PSG has become one of, if not the top, clubs globally. Atlético remains a fixture in Europe regardless of its frustrating results this season. They’re miles ahead of the two clubs from the Americas in Group B.

Unless one of the top two takes their foot off the gas, I have difficulty seeing an upset with who advances. PSG and Atléti will be moving on barring catastrophic bad luck or a complete lack of effort.

For the best values, I like Atlético Madrid to win the group at +150. They face PSG in the first game, and if they win that tie, they will be in the driver’s seat to win the group. Even a draw would give them an excellent chance. They have the quality to do it, and PSG may be experiencing a bit of a UCL hangover.

I also like Botafogo to finish at the bottom of the group at +200. Call it the inverse of the first bet. It would be a minor miracle for Seattle or Botafogo to take points from either top-flight European club. That brings it all down to the first tie between the two. A loss would doom them, but even a draw could make things precarious. Seattle has been in good form to start the MLS season while Botafogo has languished in the middle of the table during their title defense.
