In the late portion of Tuesday night’s MLB schedule, the Seattle Mariners look to shake off a recent cold stretch as they host the Baltimore Orioles at T-Mobile Park. While the teams’ records don’t make it seem like a quality matchup, there’s plenty of star power on the diamond and it should be a fun duel.

Seattle Mariners
The Mariners are 4-6 across their last 10 contests but remain atop the AL West at 32-26 on the campaign. Their offense has regressed some as of late, and while they haven’t batted well for average this season, even the slugging numbers have cooled off. Over the last two weeks, Seattle sits inside the bottom-10 teams in batting average, OBP and OPS, while they’re 17th in SLG. They’re just 23rd in scoring over the same span.
Julio Rodriguez still leads the team in hits, followed closely by Cal Raleigh and J.P. Crawford. Raleigh in particular is enjoying a career-best campaign with an MLB-high 23 home runs. While Randy Arozarena’s .220 AVG doesn’t look great, his OBP has come around at .344 and he’s hit seven homers, too.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles haven’t enjoyed nearly as much success on the year. They’re just 22-36, good for last place in the AL East, though they’ve showed signs of life with a 6-4 record across their last 10. It’s still been an abysmal campaign though for a team which entered the season hoping for a deep postseason run.
Baltimore’s hit leader is Ryan O’Hearn, whose .951 OPS remains a team high by a considerable margin. Gunnar Henderson and Jackson Holliday are second and third in hits with 50+ each and seven home runs apiece. Cedric Mullins is also having a decent year with a .772 OPS of his own along with a team-high 10 homers. The rest of the lineup does look a little rough, and Adley Rutschman’s regression certainly hurts.
Mariners vs. Orioles pick, best bet
George Kirby gets the start for the Mariners. He’s thrown just 8.2 innings this season but was shelled while on the mound with an 11.42 ERA and 1.85 WHIP. However, the right-hander did log eight strikeouts in that span and will look to have a significantly better outing tonight.
The Orioles start Tomoyuki Sugano, a righty who’s looked excellent in his first MLB campaign. He’s thrown 64.0 innings with a 3.23 ERA and 1.06 WHIP this season across 11 starts. Sure, his 34 strikeouts are a low mark for that amount of work, but Sugano excels at recording outs in other ways.
The Mariners actually hit worse against right-handed pitchers than they do against lefties. With a .235 AVG against RHPs and a low team batting average to begin with, I think Seattle may struggle tonight as Sugano gets the better of them. I quite like Sugano to record over 17.5 outs at -125 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.
