Tuesday offeres up a loaded 15-game MLB slate, with 30 different teams taking the field. Today’s action starts this evening, headlined by an ALCS rematch between the Guardians and the Yankees. Later, the rival Royals and Cardinals will battle in a inter-league (and inter-state) showdown. As a nightcap, the Mets will look to take another game from the Dodgers in a potential postseason preview.

Lance McCullers Jr. more than 5.5 strikeouts
Pitching hasn’t been an issue for the Astros this season, currently allowing the eighth-fewest runs per game in baseball (3.80). Still, the organization was more than happy to welcome back starter Lance McCullers Jr. from the injured list on May 4th. It’s been a struggle for the oft-injured veteran, who hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2022. Over five appearances this season, he’s posted a mediocre 5.89 ERA. However, the righty has tossed a total of 20 strikeouts over his last 10.1 innings of work.
If nothing else, McCullers has shown he still has swing-and-miss stuff. That should come in handy during tonight’s matchup against the woeful Pirates. This season, Pittsburgh hitters have recorded the league’s eighth-most strikeouts against right-handed pitchers (375). In addition, the Buccos rank 29th with 3.23 runs per game. As long as Houston’s experienced hurler keeps his command, six K’s feels like a reasonable total for tonight’s contest.
Cade Horton more than 2.5 earned runs
The Cubs are an offensive juggernaut, scoring the most runs per game in baseball (5.78). Things haven’t been quite as good on the mound, due in large part to several injuries. That’s opened up a spot in the rotation for top prospect Cade Horton, who made his major league debut last month. Over four starts, the rookie has posted a 3.98 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 16 strikeouts. Most recently, Horton tossed six innings of one-run ball against the Rockies last week.
While talented, Chicago’s young hurler faces a much stiffer test tonight. The Nationals own the seventh-highest slugging percentage in the National League (.396). Washington also enters this matchup on a high note, having scored at least nine runs in four of its last five outings. Horton has the makings of a future rotation piece, but inconsistency is common in 23-year-old pitchers. Against an above-average lineup, there could be a handful of runs for the Nats on Tuesday.
Aaron Judge more than 1.5 total bases
In spite of a disappointing series for the Yankees against the Dodgers, Aaron Judge delivered. Over three games, the two-time MVP notched three home runs and five total hits this weekend in Los Angeles. Numbers such as those have become commonplace for #99, the undisputed best hitter on Earth. This season, the outfielder is slashing .391/.485/.764 at the plate, in addition to 21 dingers and 50 RBIs. At this point, the best course of action for most pitchers is to throw four balls.
On Tuesday, the Guardians will attempt to slow down New York’s offense with starter Tanner Bibee. It’s been a solid season for the 26-year-old (3.86 ERA), one of Cleveland’s more dependable arms. However, like most pitchers, he’s had difficulty against Judge; the slugger has recorded a hit in each of his three career at-bats against Bibee. Given the All-Star’s immense power, all it will take is one well-struck ball to reach two bags tonight.
Freddy Peralta more than 5.5 strikeouts
There may not be a ton to talk about in Milwaukee, but Freddy Peralta remains one of the game’s best pitchers. This season, the Dominican has posted a 2.77 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 66 strikeouts over 65.0 innings of work. It’s yet another stellar campaign for the Brewers ace, who has some of baseball’s best stuff on the mound. The biggest barrier to Peralta’s K total? He’s not the most reliable name when it comes to going deep in games.
Fortunately for Milwaukee, the former All-Star has had plenty of success against Tuesday’s opponent, the Reds. In nine of his previous ten appearances vs. Cincinnati, Peralta has accounted for at least six strikeouts. The 28-year-old has gone more than six innings only three times during that stretch. That means the righty is capable of reaching this total even if his evening is cut short. Given his past success against Cincy, expect a solid showing from Peralta tonight.
Nolan Arenado less than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
This winter, Nolan Arenado’s days as a member of the Cardinals appeared numbered. However, a no-trade clause proved to be just enough of a barrier to keep him in St. Louis. While the veteran remains one of baseball’s best fielding third basemen, he’s looked off at the plate. Through 54 games, he’s put up a .228 batting average, six home runs and 27 RBIs. Safe to say, those numbers shouldn’t inspire much confidence in fantasy baseball managers.
Arenado has been especially bad as of late, going one for his last 17 at the plate. Things won’t get much easier against the Royals, who possess one of baseball’s best rotations. Tonight, experienced hurler Michael Lorenzen will get the nod for Kansas City. The 11th-year pro has stymied Arenado before, holding the former All-Star to one hit over 12 career at-bats. Given the slugger’s struggles recently, there’s no reason to think that will change on Tuesday.
Freddie Freeman more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
The Dodgers remain the team to beat in baseball, thanks in large part to baseball’s most terrifying offense. As one of three MVPs in Los Angeles’ lineup, the pressure isn’t all on Freddie Freeman to produce. Keeping that in mind, it’s no wonder that the first baseman continues to produce. Through 49 games this season, the veteran has slashed .368/.435/.621 at the plate while slugging nine home runs and 38 RBIs.
Even by his own lofty standards, the eight-time All-Star has been on a tear recently. Over his last five games, Freeman has notched a .474 batting average over his last five games. He’ll face Mets starter Tylor Megill on Tuesday, owner of a 5.96 ERA since May 1st. The Dodgers slugger has done well in this matchup, recording six hits over 14 career at-bats against Megill. Given Freeman’s track record and recent performance, there’s no reason not to expect another terrific stat line tonight.
