There’s not much to like about either squad in 2025. Two bad teams facing off typically results in bad baseball, but there are still some positives.
The Rockies are 11-50, easily the worst record in MLB, but they just won their first series of the year. They beat the Marlins in the first two games of this series and will look for a sweep in game three on Wednesday, June 4.
Colorado is still the underdog with +120 odds on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Marlins are -142 on the moneyline and the game total is set at over/under eight runs.
Here’s my prediction and pick for Wednesday’s Rockies vs. Marlins matchup.
Rockies vs. Marlins prediction
In a season of miserable outings, the Rockies are finally showing some shine. It may not last for long, so enjoy it now. This is just the second time the team has won back-to-back games and the first series win of the season.
Colorado will look for a sweep on Wednesday against the Marlins. It will start Kyle Freeland, who is 0-8 with a 5.72 ERA through 61.1 innings this season. It’s not a pleasant stat line, but Freeland is an experienced pitcher.
Meanwhile, the Marlins will start Cal Quantrill, who has a 5.84 ERA in 49.1 innings. He’s had much better seasons when with the Guardians, but that’s a few years removed now. If he finishes the year with an ERA of more than four, it would be his third consecutive season with that mark.
Mets vs. Dodgers pick, best bet
Wednesday’s MLB slate has three early afternoon games with the Rockies and Marlins kicking off the action at 12:10 p.m. ET. There’s really one thing to look for in this matchup, and it’s whether the Rockies can pull off the sweep.
Both teams have poor offenses and weak pitching, and it’s showing in the standings. A meaningless game in June for these clubs may not mean a ton in the big picture, but it would be quite a moment for Colorado to earn the sweep.
Let’s have some fun, root for the Rockies once and see a sweep from one of the worst teams in MLB history.
